That's a good question - especially because icons of Isis and Horus usually showed her breastfeeding. But Christian iconography was based on Hellenistic iconography, which was Platonic. In other words, Christian icons were intended to show idealized, symbolic images, rather than any kind of material reality. That is why Greek Orthodox icons are still painted in a highly stylized form, without any attempt at realism. All of the details in a Christian icon are laid out according to precise geometrical forms, and symbolize specific doctrines. Breastfeeding just didn't fit into the model.

Also, the older icons of Mary and Jesus are meant to symbolize Jesus in the Womb, before birth; they are representations of the Incarnation, not the 'baby Jesus.' For this reason, Jesus is also painted with adult facial features. Mary is venerated as the sacred gate through which Deity passed - she was sanctified by the presence of God in her womb. To show her breastfeeding would diminish her role as the holy receptacle of God and portray her as simply the care-giver of Jesus.
