It is correct. El pez desapareció en el mar.

Into = dentro, adentro, hacia el interior (indicating movement from outside to inside).

El pez desapareció dentro del mar, otra vez.

To go into the Church = entrar en la Iglesia.

Your translation is correct.

"Into" would literally mean "adentro". However, in the context that you want to use it, "en" would be an appropriate translation for "into".

"the fish disappeared back into the sea"="el pez desaparecio en el mar, de nuevo"

"El pez desapareció en el mar" is correct.

The translation for "into" is "en el" if its masculine, "en la" if its femenine, "en los" if its plural.

The fish disappeared back into the sea = El pez desapareció de vuelta al mar.
