It don't think it gives you nightmares, but cheese is hard for the body to digest, so if you do eat it before you go to sleep, you might have some discomfort!

I was told that there is something in cheese & even turkey that makes you sleepy. Causes nightmares?, I think eating anything just before you go to bed will cause nightmares.

The Answer is "yes AND no".

Yes, because if you're a disturbed individual who is already prone and susceptible to nightmares the cheese WILL elicit nightmares - but so will eating ANYTHING within an hour or two of bedding down.

The "No" answer applies to people who are psychologically stable, and can therefore eat anything (whether it be cheese or kebab, curry, pizza, etc.) prior to sleep. And they'll do so happily and without beasties (or rampant bank managers) attacking them in their sleep.

It really depends on the person. Personally I could eat anything before bed and dream of nothing, well maybe I would but it wouldn't be becauseof the food. However my aunt, if she has anything dairy related 2-3 hours before bed she'll have odd dreams not really nightmares.

I've never had any ill effects of eating cheese late at night or as a midnight snack. Maybe it depends on the person.

As children we were not allowed to eat cheese before going to bed but I have a sneaking feeling it was a way to make our ration eke out a bit. As to its reputation of stopping you from "Going" around my area cheese is known as "Bunghole or Bung"
