There was a documentary on BBC, they took a woman and left her dog at home. She didn't know where she was going, or when she would be back. About 20 mins before she got home - remember, she had no idea when the filmmakers would bring her home - the dog started waiting by the door. It was bizarre!
I think there are many things that we cannot sense, that dogs can. I know many animals can sense earthquakes, it may have to do with their hearing ability. Just because we can't find a logical explanation, doesn't exclude the possibility that animals possess abilities beyond ours. I like to think that my dog is super smart!!!

I believe that a LOVED dog(s) have a special sense. The only reason I say loved is because I have two dogs that are as much a part of my family as my children are. My female German Sheppard that we rescued from the pound is very close with me. I have had her 8 years and I usually get the flu once a year-really bad and she will not leave my side when I am sick. My Husband has to pull her off my bed and take her outside to do her business. It is the only time she is allowed on the bed as well. Also when I was pregnant with my babies (two separate times) she was ALWAYS by my side and I use to have to take her with me in the car to run errands, pick up the other kids etc. because she would cry and howl if I left her at home. She is very protective of me and the kids. My male Lab is the same way but very close to my husband.

Yes they do my pug may be neurotic but she knows when someone is missing from the pack and when they are coming home. Other dogs know when people are going into an epileptic seizure and tell them to get on the floor the best way they know how. My grandfather's dachshund would actually paw at his pant leg to say that she had to go out, because she knew he was partially deaf, and she also knew when my cousins from out of state were twenty minutes away from grandpa's house and would let him know to get ready. I believe it has to do with their big hearts and making a spiritual connection with their family. I heard a sad story the other day about a pug whose owner died and now it just sits out in the drive waiting for his owner to get back, neither his owner's wife or son has the heart to put it to sleep which was the owner's request that upon his death that they put the pug to sleep. Talk about a deep connection between a man and his dog.

Absolutely, dogs are very intuitive. I have a dog who insists upon going outside about 10 minutes before it rains. It can be sunshine or cloudy, but about 10 minutes before it rains, he will be dancing by the door, to go out. And he has a special way of doing it, and everytime he does this, it rains within 10 minutes.
Also, my son is in the Navy, when he comes home on leave, the night before he always sleeps in my son's bed.
And to the person who said dogs can't think, they can. The same lab who does the rain dance, also figured out how to unlock the door to his crate using his teeth and nose and when he poops always faces North. You are underestimating dogs.

Yes they do. My GS will set at the kitchen table (on a chair) and watch out the window about 15 minutes before my husband comes home from work. He does not come home the same time each day.

Of course dogs have a sixth sense. I had a chihuahua X and she would bark at the back gate a few mins before people would walk past. She also would go spacko about six every night . And she'd also go nuts about ten min's before other people were due home -freaky.

Yes, dogs may have more than one extra sense than us. My golden retriever can sense my seizures before they happen, hence her being my service dog.
I have seen my dogs react to earthquakes before they happen for the entire time we have lived in California, which has been forever.
And I set up a camera in my house one time to see if my dog's sensed when I was driving in to the driveway and they all were up by the door waiting from the moment I drove in.
So they probably have an extrasensory trigger that goes off before certain things happen, thanks to their amazingly-good sense of smell and sense of hearing.

Of course they have special senses! All animals have that 'earthquake' thing, something to do with the earth vibrations before a quake....I believe my dog can see and hear things that I cannot...he acts the same way as your dog.

Not only can my dogs tell time, ie know when it is time for Daddy to come home from work, they know when it is Friday night and are ready to go for a ride after work, one of them my beagle knows when I am about to have a seizure and makes me sit down, then she lays her body across me and won't move!
