It matters because I do not like being accused of ignorance on the subject. I know whereof I speak, and I know that *many* other atheists do as well.

Utuk, did you *read* my question? The words, "I have" do appear, do they not?

I am the son of a Methodist minister and attended Sunday School each week through High School. Then I went to college and majored in religion, with an emphasis on biblical studies. I took both Greek and Hebrew to read the bible in its original languages. I then spent one year in a Methodist Seminary before deciding I didn't want to fight the anti-gay forces so that I could get ordained.

During all of this journey, each step of the way I grew more and more convinced that if there is a God, there is no evidence for his existence to be drawn from the Bible. If anything, the Bible is a compilation of sociological studies that reflect the theological evolution over time. However, evolution implies change, and the God of the Bible is anything BUT consistent. Therefore, it was impossible to conclude that any true picture of God existed, since his image changed to fit the needs of the people. They had clearly modified him into their image.

i'm not precisely an atheist, yet i don't trust the Bible very lots in any respect. What do I disagree with? "i'm the Lord Thy God". i don't think that the Bible is a thoroughly precise historic account of the initiating of the worldwide, the existence of Christ, or a depiction of the top of the worldwide. probability is that i've got studied it extra critically than maximum Christians, as i used to be a Christian who truthfully studied it. i became a song minister and taught Sunday college. the final concern with the Bible is that there isn't any info to assist the final characters' existence. human beings say that the previous testomony prophecies coach the divine nature of Christ. What info, different than the memories written of Christ coach that the hot testomony memories are precise descriptions of his existence? There are stupid arguments such as those indicating that the Bible is as stable as American background, and that to brush aside it as info makes approximately as lots experience as brushing off George Washington as a results of fact the 1st president of the US. the version is that we've distinctive components and reason to have faith the veracity of the historic records of our us of a. With the Bible, such isn't the case. The Bible is a spiritual decision of different records designed to sell a undeniable religious view. It has scant exterior corroboration, and interior the few situations the place such is got here across, there is reason to have faith that it can not be authentic. human beings have truthfully created man made artifacts to attempt to strengthen the claims of the Bible. could this be mandatory if the Bible have been demonstrably authentic?

I have three brothers and out of the four of us three are atheists. All of us still read the Bible because of its cultural significance. I am sure there are a lot of theists who think atheists don't read the Bible yet are probably Biblically illiterate themselves. Nobody likes an atheists quoting from Exodus. Why not? If you don't know read the Bible.

I read and studied the bible for 17 years. (parents made me)
Never did believe it. Believed it less and less, the more I studied it. I tried to believe it but I just couldn't. I really thought there was something wrong with me.
Left the church when I moved out of my parents' house.
Now I am a pagan. Have been for 10 years.

I have read the Bible and studied throughout my college education. Christianity is the easiest of the major world religions to prove false, and this along with the fact that most Christians are not that familiar with the Bible, do not make for very fulfilling arguments in my mind.

I can honestly say that I have, considering that I once went to a Christian school, and my experiences related to reading the Bible weren't too bad actually. Well, at least some parts of it weren't, like some parts sounded like the Bible was telling a story about so-and-so etc. That's how I am- I see the bible as a book of stories if I ever need to read it again.

I read it. Blue Letter Bible on the internet helps you find anything quickly.

I once found a quote from Jesus that said "go NOT door to door."
Every time a Jehova's Witness came knocking, I would show them that quote and ask them "why are you standing at my door?"

Their answer? My bible was not the "true" bible. They had their OWN VERSION of the Bible.

10 years ago when I was trying to find answer to my spiritual questions; I read four different translations of the bible cover to cover.

King James , Living Bible, New American Standard, and New International Version.

My answers were not in the scriptures; so I explored lots pf different religions until I found one that did answer my spiritual questions.

I have studied the Bible in depth; both it's contents and it's history; from both the perspective of a believer and a non-believer.

Studying the Bible was the reason I rejected Christianity and eventually became an atheist.
