I have a VERY southern accent. Sometimes people think it's cute and try to mimic it. I hate that. I feel like they're putting me down, eventhough they think they're being nice and funny. Don't do it. It just reminds the person that they're different than you and lets them know that you notice it so much, you have to comment on it.

If it's intentional and meant to be offensive, yes, then it is very rude.
I love all the different accents people from other cultures and countries have and I will almost always ask them where they are from and that I love their accent. But I'm like Krys Tamar above in that when I'm around somebody with an accent for a period of time I will just naturally pick up the accent and it's not intentional. It's just a natural thing that happens and I really can't help it. It's that natural.

I believe it all depends on how you use the accent, if you know what I mean. If you mimic the accent to offend the person, then it would be very, very rude. However, if you are justing playing and the person you are conversing with knows that you mean no harm, then I think talking with different accents is fine. I do it with my sister all the time!

I think that it is a little rude to mimic foreign people. It drives me nuts to go to a Chinese restaurant and hear someone at the next table mimicking the waitresses. I think in that case it is very rude. If it is someone you are close to, whether it be family or friend.. I think that it is perfectly acceptable as long as it doesn't hurt the person's feelings. I have to agree that it is fun to speak in other accents that you admire and although it may being annoying to some people, I think that it is acceptable, as it is not meant to be rude or disrespectful. I love to speak in with a Spanish accent. I think that it is such a beautiful language and I don't care who knows it!

It depends on how the person takes it. If its a very funny accent I would say thats rude, but if its sorta common then It would be okay. I sometimes mimic people on tv because their accents are funny just not in front of people who it could offend.

I think it depends on your motive and your relationship with them. If you are not cordial with that person than yes it's more than rude. But if you all are friends than maybe their is slight comfort to do so. I love the old English accent and I mimic it out of admiration and not rudeness. So think I guess it's all in why you are trying to copy a native tongue!

it would be rude if you're doing it intentionally and in a mean way.
if you were purposely mocking the accent.
but... if you are completely immersed in a country that has a prominent accent... i think it's just natural to slowly pick it up and to talk with a slight accent... just by default.
we're creatures of habit and... we tend to mimic what surrounds us.
i personally think if i were in england for a long time... i'd prob start to talk with a slight accent... not cuz i wanted to be rude but just cuz i'm so used to hearing it and it would prob come naturally...
i speak french/english/spanish... and i find when i skip from one to the next... i'll carry over a bit of an accent.. funny how your mind adapts to certain things... and not to others..
all depends i guess.
but all that to say. i dont think it's rude unless that's the intent!

I find it very rude.
But it depends on the person, cause some people might actually like their accent, even though it's bad.

I find that I will pick up accents accidentally. I did this to a reporter in London and she was astounded when I told her I was from the States. Nothing rude intended, just how my ear and vocal chords work together.

yes, because they feel that you are making fun of the accent.
If you mimic the accent when no one is around then it is just for fun
