It is supposed to be a non-profit international humanitarian organization ---however, they have evolved into another one of those that call themselves 'non-profit' but are really more interested in making as much as they can off the donations they receive to pay high salaries of the administrators of the organization. Same is true for Salvation Army and Volunteers of America ---I find the only existing organization that really is interested in humanitarian effort is the St. Vincent DePaul organization and the local domestic violence shelters (although I have found a couple of these shelters have people working in them who steal the good donations and give the sh*t to the homeless. You just have to be careful....my suggestion if you want to help someone, is to find a family or person in need and do things directly for them, don't count on any of these "organizations" to do the right thing. Oh yeah, I've been a volunteer for over 10 years.

Goodwill 'was' and still is a wonderful organization. Just as its name states. Unfortunatetly they have faded into almost oblivion because they do not have the PR resources that the big charities have.
They were first and foremost in the support of the needy and still serve them with all they have and do not have huge overhead co$t, like the other so called chairities who claim to do the same thing..

If you mean "goodwill" and not "Goodwill," it means that your "will" is that "good" comes to others. You may not think that other person "deserves" something good, but your heart is in the right place and you give them the gift/item/compliment/money (whatever) anyway.

Goodwill is a non profit organization that seeks to improve disadvantaged peoples lives by giving them jobs and training. The accept donations of clothing and household items from the community, and in turn hire and train people who are in need of employment and/or training to work at the stores selling the goods. I believe all the profits above and beyond paying the employees wages go to ongoing training, staff development, etc. in order to provide its employees with the skills and self esteem they need to survive in the workforce.
...also they have really cool stuff for sale...especially in the rich suburbs or towns where people donate items that are barely used or very recent :) (little tip for ya!)

In accounting, there's a concept called "goodwill", meaning a bookkeeping entry to explain that you bought something at a price above its reasonable market value.
