My dog hurt her foot a few days ago but we did not notice. when we did notice, we put a sock on her foot so that she would not bleed on the carpet, we got the sock to stay with a hair tie. It came off last night and she wasn't bleeding anymore so I did not worry about it. This morning it was bleeding so I put the sock back on. I went to work at 8 and got off at 6. She was limping so I took off the sock and it was swollen. I feel absolutely terrible! So, my question is, will the blood flow back and will she be okay?? She is my baby girl! I feel awful. Please help. I will feel better if we know what is going on. Thank you!

IN addition: Some people think I don't take care of my dog...excuse me, we have been giving her antibiotics. IT is swollen because it had a rubber band around it.

The cut had nothing in it when I looked. It has been snowing here and I think she stepped on a rock or something and scrapped it. I looks like a small scrape on the pad of her foot.

No, she is a medium size dog. We don't give it to her at once because the vet said to seperate it.

Did ya EVER think of going to the VET???
I mean, there was the FIRST opportunity...when the cut happened...then there was a SECOND opportunity when you had cut off the circulation all day. Do people have any common sense anymore?????? If the circulation was compromised long enough, the tissue can becom necrotic....that mean DIE.
NO KIDDING it is swollen because you put a RUBBERBAND on it!!! That was WAAAAAAYYYY NOT a smart thing to do!!! Instead of going to the VET, you actually THOUGHT to put a rubberband on it. And how do you know it was a "few days ago" if you didn't notice????? When you DID notice, why did you think it was days before????
You should NOT have a pet if you will not provide the care it requires!!!!
How are you giving her antibiotics if you haven't been to the vet???????????
YOU LIE!!!! If your neighbor is a vet, you would have been THERE asking what to do about you little rubberband problem....not on Yahoo! Answers!!!!!! Do you how many times people were called out on being a BAD owner over something like this and how many times they claimed "the neighbor is a vet"??? LMAO!!! Did you think you were bring ORIGINAL?????
You probably have some LEFT OVER medicine from somebody and are giving it to the dog. Yeah....that makes you a real good owner.
What antibiotic and what dose are you giving the dog?????
What kind of dog do you have??????
Is it mixed with a Chihuahua?????????
Well did your 'neighbor vet" bother to tell you that 25mg of Clindamycin...also known as Antirobe...is the dosage for 10 POUNDS??????????? Yeah...25mg TWICE DAILY is the dose for a 10 pound dog or cat. I surmise that your dog is WELL over that 10 pounds!!!! The dosge is 1ml/cc of the liquid PER 10 POUNDS of body weight!!!!!!!!
THERE is the point!!! Your "neighbor" has no clue!!! You are giving enough for a 10 pound animal. You are NOT giving 50 mg. It is a twice daily medication.....10 pounds gets 25mg TWICE daily. Your dog must weight AT LEAST 40 pounds....so there is NO benefit of giving the dose you are giving!!! That is why I still don't think you got it from a vet!!! No vet can give THAT incorrect of a dosage!!!!!!! You probably had a cat with an abcess and has some left over....and now decided to give it to the dog. A REAL vet would not give Antirobe for your dogs condition anyway. Regular old Amoxi or Keflex would be a lot better.
Hey, YOU asked!!!! Just telling ya some things!!! If you could just admit that you are giving left over meds to the dog you left for 9 hours with a rubberband!!!! Jeez...sorry for knowing SOMETHING about animals and medication!!!! You should get a better vet...er..neighbor!!!! LOL!!!

She will be fine with time. I'm concerned that there may be something in her paw. Have you looked very carefully at it with a flash light to see if she has picked up some glass, tack, sharp pebble or the like? If not. Do this. Then soak her foot in warm but not hot water. Then wash it well, dry it and wrap it in gauze that you can wind around without it being too tight and then tape it to keep it on. A trip to the drug store for some rolled gauze and medical tape is required. Or if you are really able to go to Petco or Petsmart and see if they have self adhesive gauze. This is what vets use and you can buy that to make a bandage that will stay on. Change the bandage daily and see if her foot is healing in a couple of days. If it isn't improving take her to the vet.

First of all, if you dog's foot is bleeding, you don't just put a sock on it and call it good. It needs proper care and bandaging. Wash it off with clean water and bandage it, if it still bleeds and swells, CALL YOUR VET!! This could be serious, and in that case, needs serious attention. If you can't afford to take it to the vet, I would suggest selling or giving it to a good home. I really don't mean to sound like a b**** but this really is serious. Good luck!

If the vet looked at it and gave you meds you're ok. They bleeding probably stopped when you put the rubber band on it because the band acted as a turnequit (sp?) and when you removed it, you removed the restriction of blood flow and thus it began again.
As long as you have indeed taken your dog to a vet and she's cool with it and you now have meds, don't listen to anyone but the vet.

I would suggest that you take her to the vet, sounds like she might have an infection now. In the future if you are concerned about blood from a wound getting on your carpet, use a product called vet wrap-you can find the people brand in the first aid section of the drug store. It will stretch and adhere to itself, so no tape needed.

You really need to get your dog into a vet. It is possible that the foot will not be viable after having a rubber band on it

If you loved your dog, you would have taken her to the vet when she hurt her foot. It may be too late now. She could have gangrene in her foot. If she was your baby girl you would have done the proper thing when she first got hurt.
