I ran track in high-school as a miler (4:40 mins was my best) and would have to say that everyone is different. I assume you're in 8th grade, but your question is still quite hard to answer because you don't give your height, body build, muscle condition, health condition, etc. Quite often for the mile kids drop 30 seconds to a minute off their time from one year to the next.
Start by visualizing what time you'd like to be at when you're a senior and work backwards. For example, let's say you want to be a world class miler when you're in 12th grade. That's in the 4:00 mins flat range, so in 11th you should be about 4:30 mins, in 10th at 5:00 mins, in 9th at 5:45 mins, and in 8th at no more than 7 mins.
Next you have to build your endurance. This can be done by running outside, on an indoor track, or on a treadmill and/or elliptical. Interval training and wind sprints are highly recommended because no one competes at the mile by running the same speed for the entire race. Laps 1 & 4 are traditionally faster than laps 2 and 3. Also, you'll need to start building your calf and thigh muscles, coupled with light upper body strength training. Before you begin though I'd suggest getting an OK for your plans from your family doctor
That's just a rough plan, but I hope it was a help to you. If you need any fitness equipment please take a look at our site. Remember to follow your dreams and I wish you much success!

Welll....I guess it's not too bad, but you still have lotsa work to do. I'm 13 and my last mile was 7:45, sooo....I recommend you run daily and play a certain sport that keeps you in shape...
At my school, you'd need a 6 minute mile to get an A.

I think that you need to give more information about you build etc. I would recommend that you concentrate about improving your performance by your own stanards, and also take part in competitive events. You still have to grow, and achieve your optimum muscle strength. So, if you maintin your efforts, you will be rewarded by
(a) having a healthy life style. Just everyone in your friends is turning fat, you'll be fit and attractive. And the chicks love it!
(b) have the satisfaction of meeting your goals.

thats a good time! unless you do track or something and really want to get a better time, then dont worry about it. thats a really good time for running the mile. if you want to get better just try exercising, going out to run around your neighborhood, run on a tredmille, things like that.
