Well if you don't know don't try it, your hair will most likely turn orange, then you will have to go to the salon anyway to have them fix it so you might as well just go there first to have it done right the first time!!!!!!

You Don't!!! And Sun-In is the worst thing for hair. So is box color. Sun-in and other box colors are metallic based dyes and they can turn your hair weird colors sometimes.... like orange, green, gray... not fun. I'm a hairstylist, I've seen it happen a lot. And once that happens, you have to go to a salon to get it fixed and that will end up costing more than it would have to just come in and get it blonde.

Don't do it at home!!!! If you use a box color and then have to go to the salon to have it fixed it can ruin your hair. When i was in Cosmetology school we had a girl come in who did that (she didn't tell us she used box color) so we put some foils of bleach on and the metallics in the box color reacted with the bleach. It burned holes right through the foils. And ruined the clients hair. Don't use a box

If you have to do it at home, look for the boxes that say "High Lift" on them. I've been dying my hair out of a box for years and its fine. Also, go to your nearest Sally beauty supply and pick up some red/gold corrector. Add it to the dye and it will keep out the brassy tones.

Get some blonde hair dye from your local chemist (drugstore in the US). Depending on how deep your current tone is, you may need to bleach it first.

For an authentic sun-lightened look, try Sun-In. You just spray it on and blow dry.

It really all just depends on the shade of your hair. If your hair has any red undertones in it what-so-ever it WILL turn orange if you dye it on your own. I always tell people that if they are going darker its ok to do at home, but you should always leave lighting to the pro.s so you always get the color you want.

you dont, you'll ruin your hair for a very long time if you try the home bleaches. And as far as sun in goes, your hair will turn a gross shade of brass/blonde

If brown is your natural hair color and not "artificial" then its easy just go to the store and pick out the box that matches your hair color
