When I slowly run my fingers along my scalp, I find a lot of small bumps that are 'stuck' to my scalp. So I carefully 'peel' it out with my nails, and it's a disgusting brown peachy colored hard flake. Now it's not just one here and there, it's all over my head!

Anyone know what exactly it is and how can I eliminate this things?

I wash my hair about 3 -5 times a week, so could it be residue? But then I have been using an anti-residue shampoo so I don't know.

I also have a mild case of dandruff, if that helps.

Thanks. :-)

- I don't know, but I don't think it's conditioner residue because I only condition the ends and the little flakes are on my scalp.

- I don't have sensitive skin, at least I don't think so. I've never had any rashes or irritations before.

- My scalp is itchy once in a while, but I don't think it has to do with the little flakes.

There are so many kinds of dandruff, try switching your shampoo, you may be having a reaction to something in your shampoo, many people are alergic to the sulfates in shampoo, and grocery store shampoos have a HUGE amount of sulfates in them. try a shampoo for dandruff for 2 weeks, if that doesn't help, try one of the sulfate free shampoos. like Abba, Aura, Satin or Tri. they all make them.
if none of these help, you really should see a doctor.

and someone said dandruf is white, it isn't always, it can be brown, white, yellow, etc, and is usually waxy and quite gross!

I seriously doubt its any kind of residue
good luck hon!

I'm not positive, but it does sound like a nasty residue issue. I don't think using an anti-residue shampoo will help either because it sounds like it isn't being rinsed away properly. Soak your head in mineral oil, baby oil or vegetable oil. Make sure you massage it into your scalp very thoroughly and then wash your hair a few times in a row rinsing VERY well. Then condition your hair, but not all the way down to the roots. If this doesn't help you may have to see a dermatologist. Or like Jay said Tea tree oil is good for a lot of skin conditions too.

Once my sister washed her hair and didn't rinse the conditioner out properly and it left this hard stuff in her hair that was white because it was a white conditioner, so it could just be shampoo or conditioner if your conditioner or shampoo is brown or close to the color brown. If you are really worried you can go to your local doctor to check you out, because it could be some sort of skin condition!
Do you have sensitive skin?
If you do could be an allergy towards the shampoo or conditioner and it could give you an allergic reaction!

It just sounds like dry scalp. You should try Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner... and try the Tea Tree Oil from Paul Mitchell. You really should get it and use it! It could get worse and turn into scalp psoriasis or something else... is it itchy? Anyway, even if it is... the Tea Tree will definately help!

Sounds like seborrheic dermatitis, a skin condition sometimes mistaken for dandruff. The brown lumps are dried hair oils.

Go to your doctor and ask for a referral to a dermatologist to ensure you get the proper diagnosis and treatment, as dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, eczema, and dry scalp are all often confused by regular doctors.

dandruff is the dry cells of scalp. in ur case scalp is too dry and bumps are formed. Treat ur dry scalp - use packs and use some remedies for dandruff that will prevent to get fungal infection while wet.

I dont know what kind of shampoo you are using but if you use any product from Panteen then STOP using them! Panteen is the WORST thing that anyone could use in there hair! I talked to my hairdresser and she told me she said there products will ruin peoples hair!!! And it will cause build up on your scalp!
Hope this helps!!!
