You should ask your pastor

Jesus had to have the capacity to sin or else he could not have conquered sin through obedience to God. His whole purpose was to take on the nature of man, conquer sin and satisify the claims of justice demanded by the Father. The fact that he was tempted in the wilderness should dispel any notion that he "couldn't" sin. If that were true he could not have been tempted. His flesh no doubt had the desire to sin. He resisted. Thank you Jesus.

Mar 1:13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

Your pastor was wondering this question?

Oh boy.

Anyway, no, Jesus did not have a sinful nature. Since he is the Son of God, he was born without sin, and lived an entirely sinless life. Since God is perfect, he cannot sin. If he did, that would make him imperfect.

Tell your pastor to go back to school. This is BASIC in Christianity. Even young children would know the answer to this. Sorry to say.

Extra Comment: To RW below: If God had not led a sinless life, he could not have paid the penalty for our sin. If he wasn't sinless, he couldn't have possibly died for us since he would have been just like us if he was sinful. It has EVERYTHING to do with it. I don't see how you can say that his leading a sinless life has no purpose or meaning.

I understand what you're saying I think. You're not asking "did Jesus sin" but if he had the sinful nature like Paul describes us having....... Thats a good question........ Jesus was in a world of sin, and he was not safe behind the security of heaven - in other words he, being mortal, feeling pain, feeling sorrow, etc, was certainly prone to temptation....... But Jesus, unlike us, was consumed by the Holy Spirit, which always leads us to righteousness. We are not totally consumed by the Holy Spirit on this earth because our sinful nature still maintains some grasp on us....... As for Jesus, he may have been consumed by the Holy Spirit, but sin was nonetheless a temptation. Look at it this way, before Adam and Eve sinned, they must have had no sinful nature, but they decided to embrace the sinful nature. In the same way, maybe the sinful nature was reaching out to him, but Jesus never embraced it. His mind was always set on righteousness. Our mind isn't, our mind sometimes wanders into self-righteousness and self-gratification. Jesus did not want to please himself, but instead please God in heaven.

Well there are 11 sins in the bible.
Did Jesus commit any of them?

let me go check with MY guru

did Jesus believe in Paul's sin teachings? nope

Paul helped invent Original Sin, retranslate how gehena and sheol was translated from a place outside the community or the grave to "hell", or from a place we can be now to a place we go forever based on Original Sin and the whole savior/at one ment thing

I think the idea is missed, the kingdom of god is now, so is "hell" or suffering, look at New Orleans, Darfur, Mogadishu, Iraq, etc

we do it to ourselves when we don't love our neighbor or respect the fact we are all worth loving and honoring as a god would love us

Of course not. Nobody has a 'sin nature' - that is a mistranslation of the Greek word 'sarx.' The idea that we have a sin nature is pure gnosticism. Your pastor should know that.

Jesus was JUST as sinful "by nature" as we all are.

if he was not then his not breaking any laws(which he did anyway) would have no meaning.

if jesus COULD not sin, then his not sinning has no meaning.

what meaning does it have for a tree to not sin?

the whole premise of jesus being born superior to us is simply part of the IDOLOTRY of the MAN over GOD.
