Most University towns have great nightlife and lots of eateries because of the resident students - so just decide how far you wanna go! Cardiff, Edinburgh, Bournemouth, Brighton, Bristol and Newcastle I can recommend from experience

in case you want some thing extremely distant faraway from the crowds and screaming little ones, the islands off Scotland's coast are magnificent for a short smash. Orkney has a lot of exciting archaelogical information superhighway sites and Skye has the numerous maximum fantastic surroundings, plus some cracking good eating places (the three Chimneys, for instance).

You gotta try ardiff - good clubs, pubs and restaurants. Lots of shops, including non chain stuff. All pretty compact with cheap to expensive hotels right in the centre...
