You are under no obligation to give a statement, but be warned; if your insurance company is asking for one they can deny your claim based on your refusal to cooperate with the claims investigation (it's in your policy) and you face non-renewal of your policy. If you refuse a statement to the other company they have a perfect right to deny liability and payment. It's no big deal and is standard claims practice. Just tell the TRUTH.

If it's not your insurance company you are not contractually obligated to give one. However, if you have nothing to hide and it wasn't your fault, why are you refusing? A thorough and complete investigation gathers all facts- statements from everyone and also involves getting the police report. But if the report is poor and because the officer did not witness the accident. insurance companies don't go solely on the police report. If there is a conflict and you don't want to give a statement, that's fine. However, a decision will be made with the evidence that they do gather, and if that doesn't support you and you've dug your heels in you may not get paid. It's up to you.

There may not be a police report Some co will settle claims on the word of the Parties providing that they admit fault. It probly would be in your best interest to tell what happened. Dont sign anything until you read it thorougly. If you are being honest and are not hiding anything you will be ok . But the police report should be enough, And additional statements should not be necessary.

If you are not at fault for the accident and tell the truth there is no reason not to give the statement.
Cowboy Bill is 100% correct on this!!

You are under obligation to answer questions about the claim, so deny a statement is fraud and serves as a reason to deny a claim.

It would appear that you have something to hide. Just stick to exactly what you stated to police, and if they don't promise to give you a copy of your statement -- don't do it -- get a lawyer or at least his advice.
