I had atleast three shitzu's. also i had a Lab, Cockeral Spaniel, Pitt bull and almost every type of dog a-z, but the best dog I would say was the Shitzu, they are small and he loved us all, or a Pug, small dogs like these are more friendly, atleast i think so. and neither shed so much, only thing my shitzu did was eat food from my table when my back was turned. lol. but really, a shitzu or a Pug would be nice.

Go to http://www.petfinder.com and find a shelter in your area. Adopt an adult dog so you know what you're getting. Puppies can be sooo much work.
At a shelter, the adoption staff can help you find the dog that's right for you. If you don't find one the first time, just hold off. Better to have the right dog than a dog right away.

Go to this site: www.animalplanet.com and go to Dog Breed Directory and take the quiz. Or you can go to your local animal shelter and try to find a dog and ask the workers about the dogs personality and speacial needs such as if it likes a lot of excersise or a little.

You need to ask yourself a few questions such as how big of a dog do you really want, how much fur can you handle, etc. Whatever you do though, do not rule out a good pound puppy, or a nice dog from a breed rescue.

Get a dog from your local animal shelter. They have a lot of really nice mixed breed dogs, and they also have pure breed dogs. Go to petfinder.com to search for dogs that need homes in animal shelters near you. Good Luck, and make sure you are ready to care for a dog.

It all depends how much money you want to spend and how much time you are going to have to devote to this animal. You dont want to get a dog that needs ALOT of exercise if you are not going to be home. Or if you want a lap dog you dont want to get a Rotti haha. What ever you get good luck and have fun! Remember Patiences hahah I am learning that right now with our new puppy.

go to your local humane society or ASPCA. before any dog is deemed adoptable the test them to make sure that they don't have any agressive tendacies and the most important thing they check for is to make sure that the dog is friendly. If the dog is timid they can work through that with him by socializing them.
