it realy depends on a lot of factors. believe it or not their are different classes of alcoholic. you also have to dicern between an alcoholic and a problem drinker. some people are problem drinkers but not alcoholics and vice versa. generally an alcoholic is someone deemed physically and psychologically dependent to alcohol. mostly the dif classes are classified by how much and how often the person drinks and how it effects thier mood. even someone who only drinks once and a while perhaps only a few times a year but drinks to excess when they do drink can be considered an alcoholic. as for the europeans they would be classified as alcoholics because they cant go without drinking even if they are not drunk. for example in europe people especially women will not go a day without alcohol. these people are called "sippers" and carry on life as a person who didnt drink many of thier friends and family dont even know they are drinking everyday. sorry this was so drawn out and i hope it helped answer the question.

There are various definitions of an alcoholic. Basically, it comes down to an emotional and or physical dependence on alcoholic drinks. When your thoughts are consumed with when or where you will get your next drink you should seek help. If you put drinking before friends or work, get help. If your drinking has caused problems with your spouse or other family members, seek help. There are alcoholics that get drunk everyday and others that "binge" on weekends and holidays. Some people can drink "socially" on a daily basis and never develop an addiction. Alcohol abuse effects millions world-wide. Because you are concerned I think that you are moving in the right direction. There are many community resources available to offer guidance. Test yourself and go without drinking for the next two weeks. If you find yourself dwelling on it or make an excuse to go ahead and have a drink then you should probably talk to someone.

An alcoholic is someone who is addicted to alcohol, which means that alcohol has become something the person can't live without--despite the consequences.

A person who only drinks once in a while, but can't stop once he starts--alcoholic.

A person who drinks wine every day, but can easily abstain if appropriate--not an alcoholic.

If you have a question about yourself, try having three shots of liquor and then stopping. Do this every day for a month. If it's impossible--i.e. you have to keep drinking once you start--you've got a problem.

A person that cannot hold his alcohol and becomes drunk even with one glass is an alcoholic or close. Many people drink wine with their meals and do not get drunk. Alcoholism is a disease, and some people can get drunk on one glass... Most people in Europe, especially in Italy drink Wine with their meals.. a glass or two with meals is healthy and good for you, but when drinking becomes excessive and drinking wantonly, and a person's rational is lost then it is time to get help.

To determine if some one has alcholism there are two tests. Periodic loss of control, and experiencing withdrawal.

Periodic loss of control is if someone whats to drink low-risk amounts and cannot. For example if you wish to have a drink with dinner and cannot keep it to one drink for a two month period.

Withdrawal can vary in degrees. Agitation to DT's.

Low risk guidelines for drinking are no more that 3 drinks on any given day and no more that 14 drinks in a 7 day period. One drink would be equal to the alcohol content in a 12 oz beer.

Just because someone drinks on a regular basis does not make them an alcoholic.

I would say anyone who cannot go a day without a drink is an alcoholic. If you only drink on weekends then you can probably control yourself.

Actually part of the diagnosis is not based on the amount or frequency of drinking but rather the mental state of mind when NOT drinking.

Let me ask you this q? in return. Do you think "normal people"(ie non-alkies) sit around and wonder if they are alcoholics?

This question is far to open to answer in this forum but feel free to hit me up if you need some help. Or if you don't.

Years in the past a information station went to Iceland to do a tale on the Bobby Fisher Boris Spasky grandmaster chess adventure. whilst they have been there, they got here across an exceedingly thrilling area tale. each and every Friday the liquor shops have been quite lots offered out of booze and all weekend long each and every physique, including young little ones have been s.h.i.t. confronted inebriated. Then come Monday morning, each and every physique became sober and lower back to artwork. This led to a public popularity of the sporadic alcoholic. (in lots of cases mentioned as a results of fact the binge inebriated.) He became not addicted to alcohol as he would desire to bypass without it for a significant era. yet each and every time he have been given ingesting, he could get inebriated. It did not rely if this became on a weekly foundation, or in line with risk a month-to-month foundation, a similar difficulty could ensue. Your pal is a sporadic alcoholic and is in denial. He thinks he isn't an alcoholic as a results of fact he can bypass without alcohol for a quantity of time. he's fooling himself. in the previous he is going ingesting lower back, I recommend he attends some Alcoholics nameless conferences and locate out how many others are like him, thinking they are able to regulate their ingesting.

You are an alcoholic if you get drunk all the time.

So if you drink every weekend but don't get drunk, then no.

If you are in Europe and drink every day, it depends how much you drink.
