I just got back from a family christmas party and I felt like I was in a nut house.

Grandma's in the kitchen, not only cutting a fruit cake but acting like one too because she has furniture that noone is allowed to sit in, Dad's talking smack about mom in the living room, the kids are all outside half a mile down the road hiding the fact that they are smoking, and the little great grandson is tearing through the house after the dog with his mom on his heels telling him not to "monkey" with grandma's things. Top it all off, comments like, "Boy you've gotten chubby" and "Why don't you come over and visit more" in abundance.

My question is, what is the crazy things your family does during the holidays that tick you off or are just plain so bizarre that you wouldn't tell a single soul unless hiding behind the anominity of a screen name?

With a passion!!!!!!!!
I just spent the last Holiday Season with my Mother-in-Law and I literally mean this was my Last.
She invites everyone over for Dinner and what does she make??? Greenbean Casserole. What else does she make??
Nothing!!!!!!!
Then she makes all kind of noise about us forgetting to bring a camera, she has two!!
Then last but not least she makes a big deal about passing out gifts to the grandkids and she walks past my children from my previous marriage and keeps on passing out her gifts.
My husband has raised my children for the past 7 years and she still treats them like they are worthless, invisible human beings....
Needless to say she has made me realize that she will always be a cold, ungrateful, narrowminded, ugly person.
All of my kids are important to me not just the one's that are blood relatives to her. Family is more than blood, Family is love.

well, my oldest sibling(50ish) cried cuz we were tired of her running around taking pictures, even the 2 yr old nephew told her 'no more pictures!' Other siblings just seemed to be snippy w/ each other for no real reason. My mom tries to force feed everyone w/ her new, weird foods, that she enjoys but no one else does. I just kicked back this yr w/ about 4 glasses of wine, and watched the idiots. If any of them had an issue w/ me, I just mouthed off! I am the 'baby' of 7(40 yrs old) and I would rather stay home and curl up w/ a good book than go to another family party.

I do so hate family gatherings with the in-laws, no matter what the holiday. usually the one's spent at my mother-in-law's i spent watching other people, because they all thought they were too good to talk to me. It was quite amusing though to see who was sneaking off with who and what they were doing. the teens were slurping down jello shooters and trying not to let grandma see them smoking weed or having sex out in their cars. The adults were 'secretly" watching to see who might be interested enough to look at them(which is both gross and pathetic) then you have the step-father-in-law who loves to hug all the women up next to their breasts and come to him with their shirts pulled up so he could blow on their bellies and because i objected to his crap I wasn't "fitting in". and don't even get me started about my sides gatherings, except i'll say this ; my sister left a man making 86k a year, bought her everything she wanted (a new car and all) they had 2 kids together. She left him for a man who lives off a $600 a month disability check( for mental problems) who looked like her brother from the back and the man who murdered her sister from the front. Still feel bad? Don't honey, cause I got you beat by a country mile.-------------Happy Holidays

I don't hate them, I just tend to go to very few. That's because alot of my family lives locally, and are never in touch throughout the year. There is the telephone, they could come by and visit, etc. I just don't like the whole, "It's the holidays so let's make nice and pretend we're a big happy family" thing.
