It depends, dark stool is indicative of iron. Although sometime it can indicate digested blood, usually with a foul odor. but, normally dark stool is desired.

It is if it stays black for more than one or two movements or if it is a child or other weak person or someone who has ingested a surplus of iron or who may have an upper GI bleed.

Black can mean digested blood but also some foods will color it and some meds and suppliments will but shouldn't in proper quantities.

Call around and find a local ER. They almost all have a "question answering" person.

Yes. With the information you gave it seems you fit the "coffee ground" description. You should seek medical help within 24 hours. Sooner if you have pain. This can mean a serious problem. If it isn't really black, but more dark, then it should go away on it's own since it's probably something you ate. If it doesn't go away, still see a doctor!

are you taking iron supplements (or multi-vitamin with iron)? this can cause a black-ish green poo. Any significant change in poo should be followed up with your doc
