I always wounder how it works. Does a program have all the serial # stored into itself? If yes how do company know how many software to make.

all commercial softwares is programmed to have serial numbers or activation codes. upon installation of a software, the program in checking the activation codes/serial numbers is triggered everytime that software is run. Some softwares are programmed to have specific serial numbers, some are not, those who don't have the specific serials have key generators. The serial numbers are stored in the system files in your pc which is being checked every time a software is opened.

it doesn't matter how many software a certain company makes, what matters to them is how they will make profit for those softwares.
