I had mine done in my early twenties. It wasn't painful, but it never really healed up and seemed to almost be infected. I let it close up, but 5 years later I still have a bit of knot under the skin there. I don't think that trend will continue so I'd steer clear of the idea.

I've had mine done for many years now, probably about 6 years and I don't even notice it anymore, in fact, Im getting two more belly rings soon on the bottom corners of my belly button. Anyways some good advice before you go get it, belly buttons take forever to heal. Some places will tell you to leave the piercing in and clean it for at least 5 or 6 months some even a year! Be sure you are willing to care for a piercing that long before you get it done. If it is not properly taken care of it can get infected and fall out completely through the skin. I would sugest you use saline solution for contacts to clean it instead of salt water because salt water can crystalize around the ring and irritate it. My ex boyfriend was a tattoo artist so I know quite a bit about that kind of stuff. Hope this helps!

Hi,
First, No offense but I think you might want to wait a little.
I mean, wait until you are 18.
I don't remember it being legal to get one at 14 without parents going.
But hey, if you have their blessing then go for it.
You can always take it out later.
I got mine at 18 and I'm 27 now.
I love mine, I play with it when I'm nervous to this day. It's like an extension of me.
I will say, it did hurt. They will stick a large hollow needle through your belly button after clamping it. It didn't hurt for long but I do remember that later that day someone picked me up and it got caught on their pants and it hurt like ...... well you know.
REally, it's more like a quick pinch. A hard pinch.
The part that grossed me out was that they were removing a piece of your skin, just taking it right out in teh middle of the needle.
After that you have to worry that it will get infected... because trust me, it probably will at some point. Especially if you ahve every had earring holes get infected. Sometimes it just happens.
Be sure to take good care of it later too ok.
Good luck.

Any type of body modification is done for yourself and no one else. If you are asking other people whether or not you should do it then maybe you should reconsider.
I have 10 piercings (only 2 are in my lobes) and 4 tattoos of my own and never once considered the thoughts of others in my decision to get them done. I did it because I wanted to.
Perhaps you should wait until this is something you want to do for yourself and not because someone said you should. If you mean should you because of your age then I'm not sure. In Ontario the age for body piercing is16 without parental permission.
As for pain, the navel piercing is not one I have had done so I'm not sure but again, if this is something you really want the pain won't matter either way. In all my piercing experiences the initial pain only lasts a few minutes if that. It's all worth it any ways.

Only advice I would give it to make sure you pick a place with a good reputation for piercing, preferrably a place that specialises in that. My sister paid for me to get mine done the first time as a b'day present at a tattoo and piercing place and they stuffed it up which was not a pleasant experience to say the least. Second time around was virtually painless, following their instructions about cleaning and will be fine

First off there is no pain in the belly piercing at least not for me . The best advice is to get a ring that is hard for you to take out and have the piercer clamp it in tightly. If you play with it and are constanly changing the rings it will get in fected. If you cant get it out you wont be as tempted. Just leave it alone for a long time only wash it in the shower/bath and then leave it alone so it can heal for several months

Don't worry, its not so bad. I just had mine done, and it seriously was all this build up for nothing. I took a friend of mine with me who had had hers done, and she wanted to hold my hand, so she did, and she was squeezing it, but i didnt even need to. The guy did it, I looked down and said "thats it?" All that happens is he makes a mark on your belly with a pen, pinchs the skin with some forceps, and pushes the needle thru then screws the jewelry in. Unless it gets infected or yanked on, I would only rateit at a 2 on the pain scale. Have fun, and dont worry about what people think, if its really what you want.

I wouldn't suggest it, cause my body rejected that piercing and now I'm haunted with this hideous scar. The pain is slight (well, it made me squirm) and i had to hold my shirt off my belly button for a little bit :P

If its something you've always wanted, then go for it. I had mine done when I was 13, and I'm now 22. It hasn't grown out and still looks as good as it did 9 yrs ago.
If you decide to take it out when you're older, the mark will only be small, as it will gradually grow over and heal. It will just look like a tiny little scar.

I got mine pierced a year ago, and it took about seven months to heal; it doesn't hurt when you get it pierced, it's just that you have to keep it clean at all times to avoid infection. Antibacterial soap and saline solution should keep it clean. I recommend you use a titanium belly ring to help it heal quicker, your body is less likely to reject it.
