Maldives. I don't believe that it's as little as 5.5 hours. It's 8 from Frankfurt, which is closer.
ANyway, I'd do the Maldives. They are less likely to still be around in a few years when global warming kicks in and the sea levels rise higher.
if you do decide on Australia, definitely see downtown Sydney, stay at the Holiday INn express in "the rocks", eat at Nick's in darling Harbour and go to Bondi Beach and eat at Hugo's. Got to Port Douglass if you like to scuba dive, and take one of the quicksilver boats to Agincourt reef! Skip Canberra.

Well, it depends. First, which airline will you take. Second, how's the weather around the airport of your destination, and third ... you -as well as anybody else - can never know what's going to happen!
