Stop giving them money for cigarettes. Hey, talk to your child, and air your concerns. Tell him (her) that you will help him quit (patch, etc.) if he is willing to do so. Realize that smoking is addictive because of the nicotine and it's not that easy to quit. Do not threaten. Go here, http://www.medicinenet.com/smoking_and_quitting_smoking/article.htm and check up on the newest ways to quit. People hate them, but sites with emphyzemic or cancerous lungs often put a kick into quitting: http://www.tcnj.edu/~fox2/smoking/lungs.htm
There are also smoking cessation centers and counselors who may be able to help. If he/she doesn't want to quit though, it may take a great deal of convincing for these options. Let your child go to this site so that he may further understand the dangers of smoking: http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/drug_alcohol/tobacco/smoking.html

It depends on the status of the relationship to the child. If you get along with each other, and are open with one another, it would be best, in my opinion, to sit down with him and explain to him or her why smoking is harmful. Show him or her photographs of lung cancer patients, studies on why smoking is harmful, et cetera.
If that doesn't work or you do not get along with teenager, you obviously have the power to take away certain rights as incentive to get him to do what you want, but (s)he will probably resent you for it.

Ha ha! My parents tried everything with me. They made me sit and smoke a whole packet in front of them. I was so sick! I only got through about 5. They tried grounding me. They tried letting me. I still smoke, but the thing that affected me the most was when they said how do you think your little sister will feel when big sis dies from cancer and has to watch you go through chemo for cancer. That stuck with me and when I try to quit that is one of my key reasons for giving up that I cling to. Do you smoke? My mum did and used to lecture me about it then light up. Bad example set! Ask them why they are smoking then try to counteract it with reasons not to. Don't yell, try to be disappointed instead. Anger made me rebel and want to do it more!

i know how you feel, i smoked when i was a teenager and my dad caught me he made me smoke 2 cigars and then soon after i puked, after that i haven't smoked until i turned 18. just don't get too mad at them experimenting is a thing that teens do followed by bad influence. just be patient and talk to them about what it may lead to if they smoke. be a smart , understanding parent with good intentions. if you push to hard they will do it behind your back and try other drugs. just do your best and talk to them about this.

Well for my teen and pre-teen daughter, they know loud and clear the answer is that more than one butt's going to be smoking around hereif I hear about them with a ciggie.
One of my older's daughter's friends fathers caught her with cigarettes a few years back when she was 12, and let me tell you what, I tanned her hide, and she hasn't smoked since. Her little sister, now 12, told me she wants no part of that and plans to never ever try a ciggie.

looks to me she already made that determination. How lengthy has she been doing it, are you particular she's not addicted, too? possibly you adult men might want to attempt to give up mutually. i'm not judging you, my mom is interior an same concern with my little sister (age 15) and that's complicated adequate with out my mom being a smoker. youthful ones their age like to play the hypocrite card. My sister has been shifting into more desirable severe issues than cigarettes as well, yet her information superhighway, cellular telephone, and leaving-the-domicile privileges are lengthy gone. it would want to be that way for months, for her that's mandatory, it will be too a lot for your concern-- you be the decide. Her friends are allowed to come back over the position they are typically supervised through my father and mom, yet she isn't allowed to bypass everywhere yet college except she is with one among our father and mom or with me (i'm 19.) That, and her room is oftentimes searched and any cigarettes or paraphernalia we hit upon receives thrown out. once you at the instantaneous are to not blame adequate to make solid alternatives and respect your father and mom regulations, you at the instantaneous are to not blame adequate for privateness or freedom in my domicile until eventually you tutor your self lower back. On a aspect note, i'm not accusing you, yet confirm you at the instantaneous are not utilising "that's now complicated" as an excuse to not try as complicated as you'd be. countless human beings try this with out even understanding it, and it really is a waste of a few time to make excuses, unconciously or not. solid success, i can relate. it really is a crappy concern, and that's really complicated to regulate what a teen does.

Most of teenagers don't like to be told what they should do. I guess all we can do are: keep showing our love; keep talking our thoughts in skillfully like friends; wait for the right opportunities to open their eyes.. They have grown up turning to an adult. We need to lead them ways to make wise decisions, and build up their confident within.
