sounds like it could be...i had severe TMJ but never really experienced painful symptoms, oddly enough. At my orthodontist's I was given x-rays that showed my jaw alignment and they said at 20 I had the jaw of a 50 yo... given a palatial expander and braces to fix. finally made it outta the braces and now my jaw has shifted and realigned and he says this will prevent possible damage to my ear drums when I'm older bc my jaw was going back that much? tmj can be serious stuff so I'd get it checked out...good luck.
