Can anybody tell me why is it Jewish tradition for the man performing the circumcision (i'm guessing a Rabbi) on a baby boy, to, (sorry to say it like this) suck the blood up from there after he does it?

Again I will admit to my ignorance of this tradition, because to me that seems disgusting to say the very least.

And I'm just curious, why is this done?

Once again I apologize if this offended any Jewish people, whether religious or non religious.

I'd really like for someone to explain the significance of that tradition to me. Thanks in advance.

Metzitzah
Alternately spelled mezizah, mean "suction".

[edit] By mouth
Metzitzah b'peh ("suction by mouth") is a practice in certain Haredi and Hasidic circles in which, after removing the foreskin, the mohel sucks out the blood from the wound to clean it}} The mohel spits the blood into a receptacle provided. Afterwards the circumcised penis is bandaged, and the brit considered complete. Because the practice may spread diseases to the babies from the mohel's mouth (such as herpes), most mohelim ensure that their mouths are sanitized and washed out by rinsing with alcohol to disinfect the mouth.

The foundation for the ritual of metzitzah b’peh is found in Mishnah Shabbat 19:2, which lists metzitzah b’peh as one of the four steps involved in the circumcision rite. Rabbi Moses Sofer (known as the "Chasam Sofer") observed that the Talmud states that the rationale for this part of the ritual was hygienic — i.e., to protect the health of the child. He also cited a passage from the Talmud Tractate Nedarim 32a as a warrant for the position that metzitzah b’peh was not an obligatory part of the circumcision ceremony. As a result of these texts, the Chasam Sofer contended that Jewish tradition instituted metzitzeh b’peh solely to prevent danger to the infant and stated that metzitzah b’peh was not a required part of the circumcision ceremony, but nevertheless made the leniency conditional upon doctors testifying that the metzitzah with a sponge would accomplish the same purpose as oral suction. His letter was published in Kochvei Yitzchok. [4]

I got identified with genital herpes (type 2) about five years back, when I was still attending college and had a foolish one-night stand. I understand a lot of people say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and all of a sudden it seemed like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date men again. In the end, who wants to go out with someone who has sores around her private parts? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/175lP everything changed.

Not only was I able to clear away all traces of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than three weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just last week, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This method provided me the chance to be happy and experience real love again. Now I hope that I can help others too by sharing this story.

The procedure is called metzitzah b'peh, where, after removing the foreskin of the infant's penis, the mohel sucks the blood from the wound to clean it. The Talmud explains metzitzah as a method to prevent illness by drawing blood away from the wound to remove impurities, but because of the obvious health risks, performing metzitzah using one’s mouth is now rare. It's primarily a Chasidic custom.

For those who still don't believe this bizarre custom exists, see the following article from the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics. http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/114/2/e259?maxtoshow=&HITS=10&hits=10&RESULTFORMAT=1&author1=Tendler&andorexacttitle=and&andorexacttitleabs=and&andorexactfulltext=and&searchid=1125326602651_6102&stored_search=&FIRSTINDEX=%20 and this health alert from the NYC Department of Health http://www.nyp-rpc.org/pdf/2005_health_alert46.pdf

I do hope someone of the Jewish faith knows the answer to this or whether it is even true. Personally, I have never heard of this tradition. Are you sure you don't want to offend anyone?

This really wrong info. Where did you hear that? Your question should have been does this happen , not why it happens..People just like to make up things about the Jews because they do so well at everything...They really are the master race...1/5 of 1% of the worlds population and 50% of the money and college degrees...
