It's hardly a major point, don't you think?

Don't most of us in the real world accept that the Bible doesn't need to be read literally every time. I know there are a lot of Fundamentalists answering here, but isn't asking questions like this just a little like shooting fish in a barrel?

In old testament times it was likely a thing done by prostitutes. Now it isn't. I don't know of any christian religion that does not allow it. Today it would be wearing a dress so short that is is only 1 inch above the private parts. The word decency is the key. The perception is the key here. You advertise who you are and what you are

There is nothing wrong with braids....In the bibical days women would braid their hair and put gold cords though their hair,also they used beads and all kinds of very expensive jewels....If you ever look at old old pic from a differnt century you will see...The sscripture is just saying that a woman should dress modest,not like a harlot,dress decent...and not just braided hair with gold and pearls etc....That means that God prefers women to dress like a modest God fearing woman ,and not for show,with a bunch of gold and pearls and hanging things all over them..Women in those days did it for show to let everyone know how rich and elegant they were ,and they used it in royality....It is the way they wore it with Pride..but thateres nothing wrong with braids...God really don,t like the fact for people to show off acting like they are better than anyone else....

That was mainly a cultural thing back then. It's be about the same as the church not wanted girls coming to church dressed like paris Hilton of Britney. It was a sign a status that often came with a lot of vanity and pride back then.

But yeah it's the same of some of the girls in the high school group I help with, who wearing mini skirts and low cut tops. It's just not appropriate and we try to encourage modesty so there aren't distractions. It's hard to worship God when you're getting a chub over some scantily clad woman in the church. They're still welcome by all means, just prefer them to present themselves in a more modest fashion. No head covering or anything like that, just not skanky.

***Brendawise is not wise at all. Timothy didn't write the book. Paul did to Timothy who was a young disciple going to teach for a while. Maybe you should wise up to the things you try to discredit before your ignorance discredits yourself.

push aside maximum each and every thing from the previous testomony. while Jesus lived it became to fufil each and all of the prophesy and actually lifted each and all of the stern ruling off of humanity. it somewhat is a God's love difficulty. maximum easily Christian women folk do dress modestly, yet i will't tell whether or not their outfits are costly. probability is you may not tell me the two. sure, women folk are meant to undergo their husbands. yet interior a similar coaching, husbands are mentioned to handle their different halves with honor and decency. if the guy would not try this, the lady isn't inevitably certain via that 'regulation'. regarding the headcoverings...it somewhat is seen impolite to have something on your head whilst praying. i don't comprehend why, even inspite of the shown fact that it somewhat is a typical present day rule worldwide to get rid of each and every thing out of your head in the previous prayer. it variety of feels which you're taking the point of view of the untolerant, unloving sect of folk who come to a determination to take actually areas of the Bible which not rely. i think of the main authentic Christians have against any Muslim is they suspect they're interior the incorrect faith. uncomplicated as that.

It doesn't prohibit it. This is just a way of saying don't dress and act like a whore or revel in fleshly things. Whores wore braids, make-up, etc. so they could be recognized. Get yourself a King James or a companion bible, a Strongs exaustive concordance, and get your thinking UP! Fundemental belief without study will get you nothing but grief. The word must be rightly divided for understanding. Context is everything.

Consider the source :) Paul is telling Timothy what he wants the people in Ephesus to do and be like.

Interesting that Christ never did that eh? And what do you want to bet Mary M. braided HER hair?

Even back in Biblical times Christs teachings were being molded to fit circumstances and personal likes and dislikes.

Hmmmmm.

Zimmi

It wasn't that God didn't want people to braid their hair, it was all about the motives behind it. Women would do it to be vain. And that wasn't what was right. If you look at the verse as two seperate parts, you will see that it is saying what God DOES want women to do, and then it shows example of actions that might keep them from falling prey to doing the opposites of those things.

It doesn't say that it is a sin. It says that Timothy wills it.

Instructions concerning Prayer:

1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4 who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

6 who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not,) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. 2 Tim. 1.11

8 ¶ I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.

10 but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.

But you still need to answer Pilate's question.

"Then what should I do with Jesus, who is called the Christ?"

Only then the rest will make sense, because: "A person who isn't spiritual doesn't accept the things of God's Spirit, for they are nonsense to him. He can't understand them because they are spiritually evaluated." (I Corinthians 2:14
