Becasue humans, like every other animal on the planet, are hardwired to find a mate that is most likely harboring quality DNA to pass on to their offspring, and in turn pass their genetic material on to the future. Consider what we think is beautiful. A more symetrical face is preceived as beautiful, even if we don't realize it. More symetry is suppose to be a flag for 'high quality' dna. Problems with weight could be coded into the genetics of the person, which is a problem for longevity, and may be passed down to any spawn of that person.
It's the same pricnipal as to why men find it so hard to mate for life. It's hardwired in their being to spread as much seed as possible, whether they're aware of it or not. It's hard to fight primal instinct, but you don't need to waste time on men who are preoccupied with appearance anyway. Eventually they'll realize that beauty isn't forever, but by then they'll be too old for anyone to want them anyway, unless they're rich (which, by the way, has also been added to what we find attractive because of their ability to provide).
Believe it or not there are some guys who can actually look beyond the exterior to the person beneath....unfortunatly, they generally have to face the same problem as any ugly girl to realize there is more to life than looks, which mean's they're not all that hot either, as shallow as that sounds.

Let me tell you this... guys love pretty and dumb girls while they are young but when it comes to choosing a life long partner they opt for decent looking and well taken care of woman youll find the man of your dreams one day dont worry!

All it does is get the door open, dear. After that, it's a VERY short road unless the person is genuinely nice

Because a lot of men are shallow b@stards. I didn't say all of them . . but it seems a good amount of them are. I especially hate it when they are nothing to look at themselves but still seem to think they should only be dating VS models!
