When he moves his ears the left one folds up and points towards the left side of his head and stays there. We just took off the bandage today---is this natural? Will this straighten on its own?

We contacted a vet who had been referred to us by one of his previous customers--so go bite yourself Dane Lover.

You may think that this is a silly and frivolous answer BUT I AM SERIOUS (check with breeders)...
If the dog's ear still need "training" to stand up straight, split it with a tampon. Many breeders use this trick. You insert the tampon (cut to appropriate length) on the inside of the ear and tape it helping it to stand up. After a while (I don't know how long for sure) the ear will (unless the surgery was "botched") stand up on its own.

Hope this helps

It appears that the bandage was removed too soon. Some dogs need more support for their ears and for a longer period of time than other dogs. Also, this can be a problem with only one ear that needs additional time to heal and the cartilage to become stronger.
A bandage/splint that is not positioned correctly can result in problems too.

Once the ears have healed from cropping you will need to tape them until they stand properly..this can take weeks to months. This is something you should have learned BEFORE having the ears cropped.
Hopefully the breeder or the vet can help you properly tape and care for the ears.

Ask the vet how to post the ears. The ears obviously need more support. If you don't post you may end up with a bad crop.

We had 2 of our min pins ears done a few years ago and neither one of them had to be taped. They stood up on their own. The vet who did it may have botched the job.
