I'm not sure exactly what you are asking, but I will try to answer in general terms.
A cross (or crucifix, if an image of Christ is attached) is a symbol. There is nothing sacred about the cross itself. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with tossing the cross into the garbage. In fact, if the cross is broken or dirty, most people would probably consider it more disrespectful to keep than to throw away.

The Catholic church threw away a large 6ft.metal cross. when I was a child. I took it to a black folks church behind my home. and gave it to the preacher . I told the preacher maybe they could put it at the top of the steeple. he said sure go ahead and put it up there. we laughed.why not give it to someone. or put it in a place where people congregate and someone may wont it.

You'd never find a cross in my place, so I guess, if I did, it'd be OK.
Now, I would never throw a holy book in the trash. They must be buried, with ritual, if they are worn beyond use.

Certainly but, if you're hesitant about it, put it out at the next yard sale or donate it to the Salvation Army.

I would not put it in the trash- maybe you could re-gift it or donate it.. the trash is not the best place for it unless it's broken.. it's simply out of respect for religious items.. I would not throw away a Bible either but that's just me..

that seems wrong. better to smash it or melt it first and so it no longer looks like a cross. then OK to toss it.
sort of like a flag. you never throw in trash but must burn it up and then throw away ashes.
it is a thing of respect for symbols that people care about, thats all.

Give it to the Salvation Army- perhaps they could sell it and use the cash to help the needy.

It's just a material object. We aren't suppsed to worship things made by human hands. Do what ever you want with it.
