My three month old has this red rash looking patch on the upper side of his face it is rough feeling and I notice little red spots on his head and flakiness? I thought it was cradle cap but my mother in law and her mother claim it is not and that cradle cap has to be yellow dry skin all on top of the head and can not be yellow flakiness..? I used baby detergent but after having them wash the babies clothes they insisted using regular detergent was fine. Anyone know what this could be and is it common? And whos right on the whole cradle cap thing me or my mother law so I can be sure to get something for it if its cradle cap like oil to help cure it?

sounds like seborreic dermatitis, it's very common in children that age. Go see a dermatologist. Good luck with the baby!

cradle cap looks sort of oily/greasy..and the skin spots are rather seperate..some over lap..but look very distinct...you are almost tempted to pick at them because they look like they would just peal right off with a little picking..dont do this...they stick on pretty darned good and they will flake off all on their own..they do no harm to baby...a rough rash on his little cheek may be some excema...try a little lurbriderm...Dove soap for its extra moisture worked really well for my daughter...and go back to Baby detergent..some babies are much more sensitive...and extra rinse cycle can also help...the oil on the cradle cap does seem to make the flakes come off more easily..but then they will flake off all on their own....lastly..trust your own gut feelings..this one is your baby...and while they mean well, grandmas can and will take over this baby if you aren't careful...and then you'll never do anything right in their eyes...kiss him for me...mine is 26yo..miss the baby!

Maybe the baby has allergies, sensitive skin, eczema etc etc... Take him to the doctor.
