I have gained over 30 pounds in last couple of years, I have tried to diet and exercise but can't seem to get the weight off.....how can I get going on losing this weight? Now that I am older it seems much harder. Am I doomed to be fat?

Your metabolism slows as you age. You can counter this by building some muscle by lifting weights or some other weight bearing exercise. Muscle burns more calories than fat.

As with any age, you have to consume less calories than you burn. Eat less and move more. Also, eat smarter. A tub of carrots has the same amount of calories as a handful of chips.

Remember, every ounce of fat on your body gets there through your mouth.

Good luck.

No, you are not doomed to be fat and most of us over 40 will never look like we did at age 16. we can become thinner. I used weight watchers and I run 4-5 times a week. after 40 the metabolism slows down and yes it makes it harder to lose weight, so we have to kick up the exercise and eat less than we did to maintain.

You are not doomed to be fat! Start eating healthier foods, less eating out at fast food restaurants, and start exercising at the same time each day. Some people will go on a jog in the mornings for maybe 20 minutes or so. Take a pet with you! Get involved in some sort of sport with your family. Tennis, Basketball, whatever works with your schedule. Watch what you eat. Always check food labels. Portion your meals, meat shouldn't be larger than a deck of cards. You can still enjoy the occasional ice cream or sweet food, but don't do one of those, "eat healthy during the week and splurge on the weekends" things. Those don't work. Just remember, exercise and portion your meals.
Good Luck!

Diet & Exercise. Not to sound like a smart a$$ but that is the bottom line. The pills don't work and never will. Check out the Weight Watchers program, It 's really good. IF you follow that program and start walking a little everyday you will drop weight. There isn't anthing that is a quick fix but Weigh Watchers will help you loose weight on a regular basis untill you meet your goal.

Cutting calories is basically the bottom line in losing weight. You have to burn more than you take in.

With that being said, weight lifting is the best way to increase metabolism. Weight lifting can boost your metabolism for longer than pure aerobic exercises.

Also, changing up your aerobic routine is good as your body adjusts to doing the same aerobic routine.

people around the world think weight problems are caused by manythings when the biggest thing is self control.

I suggest you sign up for weight watchers. You can sign up online and if you control yourself, you will see a big change in two weeks. The change will be even bigger if you exersise.

and another thing- get rid of the junk food. just throw it out. if you dont want to waste it, give it away.

but weight watchers works for all ages- its amazing

the keys to weight balance at any age are physical activity and portion control. As you ramp up your physical activities, set acheiveable goals for yourself. Another must is eating breakfast to get your metabolism going, and regular snacks throughout the day. Eat slowly, especially when you are really hungry...it takes the brain almost 15 minutes to catch up to your stomach, which is why most people overeat and then feel sick and bloated. Good Luck!

You should be consistent with that you do... Control that food that you take (especially the ones that can make you fat). Also a 30 min walk everyday is good.
