Obviously this isn't the place to get serious advise on your question. Beagles are "the" rabbit dog b/c they are small enough to get through brush and such. There also fast with endurance. Great since of smell. It's neat watching them get on a scent b/c they start to bark and howl as they follow the trail. One thing to watch for is them getting on a deer scent...then you might not find them until a day later. Actually that happens often. I heard of people loosing them for a couple days. But I suppose it's how well you train your dog too. It's takes lots of dedication and patients to train your hound dog. My best advise to learn how to train a beagle to hunt is to read, read and read some more either by books, mags or the Internet.Good luck and have fun.

I had a pair of Beagles (brother & sister ) I just took them hunting and they learned on there own . It takes them longer that way .If you can find someone with dogs all ready running . They will learn faster if they run with them .... It helps if the pups come for a good blood line ( hunting parents ) not from a long line of parents that were pets .

THE best way is to find someone who has a well-trained older beagle and run your pup with the old dog as early as 7 months old. It will take time, but the pup will catch on. Pay this person if you have to.

When their a puppy, kill a rabbit, take it's hide, and always let them smell it. The pup will then know that smell that smell. Sometimes take them take the hide and tie it to some string and just drag it around. The dog will find that it's fun to chase them and will love to chase them. When it gets a little old let it smell the hide and then walk with it on a leash and let it jump rabbits and try to run them while u hold them on a leash.

Beagles aren't the best hunting dogs in my opinion...I would go for a bigger dog considering rabbits are in tough terrain.

Try getting him to play catch with a dead rabbit?
