this was a gift and brand new but it would work for one picture and then stop working- took it in and it would take a few pictures, then it would act up again and not work- finally wolf camera shop said that it was not worth having it repaired since the sensor (which must have been going bad right from the beginning) would cost as much as the camera. Is that true? I never did know where it was purchased since it was a gift but I have all the original boxes and components that came with the camera.

Ask whoever bought it for you where they purchased the camera. You should be able to return it for a new one. If that doesn't work, read your Fuji warranty info. Typically, new cameras have a 1yr parts/90 days labor warranty.

Boxes and such aren't of any help in obtaining a warranty. You need the warranty card and you CAN say it was a gift and the date it was given to you. Pressure Fuji really hard.

"I know you've had a lot of problems with this model with this CCD defect and I think that if you were a stand-up company you would do something to reassure me that you make quality products."

I've seen about 10-25 of these cameras - same model same problem. I think Fuji should repair it for free, but they haven't issued a service advisory on this model for that problem.

Unfortunately Fuji USA is controlled by Fuji Japan and they have to charge if Fuji Japan makes them charge for the repair. Fuji USA has no control over this what-so-ever.

Standard repair cost (if Fuji doesn't cover it) should run about $150 - too much for that camera. Tell them you can't see why you should ever own a Fuji digital camera again if these are the type of products they offer.

P.S. The sensor was NOT made by Fuji... It was made by your lovely friends at SONY! All manufacturers were hit by the same problem and all manufacturers bought their sensors from the same crap company... SONY!
Reminds me of a certain company's laptop batteries that would EXPLODE!

Huh... Interesting... I though Sony was good - I guess were not in the 90's anymore.

Either find out where it was purchased and try for a store replacement, or send it to Fuji under the new camera warranty. The warranty paperwork should have been in the box, along with information about where to send it for service.
Good luck, and bummer that it didn't work. ;-(
