The phrase is either "I seek not peace but rest" or "Seek not peace but rest", I cannot be 100% sure which it is. I would like to find the source of the quotation. I'm not sure if it is from a text, a movie, a religous book or document.

Before anyone says 'just effing Google it!', I have, and I've searched using all of the major and many minor search engines as well as a number of quote websites but to no avail thus far.

I'd like to find out who the quote's author is and the context in which it was first quoted. If there is anyone out there who knows please let me know, as it is now driving me to distraction.

Many thanks.

i pretty sure it was Gandhi. he was asked, (during his walk to the sea, to make salt, which the British had taxed) by a reporter something like, "why are you doing this, i thought you wanted peace, this will bring retaliation" and that was his reply.

"Come with me apart into a quiet place, away from the crowds, and let us rest for a time."

THE FEAST BESIDE THE SEA, AND WHAT FOLLOWED IT
Matthew xiv: 13 to 36; Mark vi: 30 to 56; Luke ix: 10 to 17; John vi: 1 to 71.

This is the closest I got for that phrase.

I'm sorry but I've looked tons of places. I love quotes but I just couldn't find this one. I'll keep looking. Good luck!
