My kitten is free of any fleas. ( I use dawn dish soap until she gets a little older.) I have just heard from people that ash kills fleas if you rub the fallen ash into your carpet.

Ash does not work in killing fleas. What you were told is an "old wives tail" in treating for them. Ash can possibly dehydrate the flea eggs in the carpet, but I wouldn't hold much stock in that.

Here is a complete way to treat for fleas. It comes from my Mom, who owns a pest control company.

"First, treat the kitten with Capstar. This is a pill that will kill all of the fleas that get on the kitten for the first 24 hours. Second, use either Frontline or Advantage. Frontline can be used on kittens 12 weeks old or older. Advantage can be used on kittens as young as 6 weeks.

Once the kitten has been treated, you must treat your home and yard. The best products to do this would include not only a killing agent, but also a sterilization agent. Inside, I would use Ultracide, if you can get it. (Many on line sites sell it.) Wash all kitten bedding and vacuum frequently. DO NOT STEAM CLEAN YOUR RUGS! This can hatch flea eggs and make your problem worse.

Outside I would use Demon WP mixed with Gentrol or Nylar. Treat the entire yard, paying special attention to under bushes and low hanging branches.

Treating your house and yard is just as important as treating the cat!

It is also very important to stay away from the grocery store or box store products like Zodiac or Hartz. Many of these products can cause severe allergic reactions in animals."

The only way that ash would kill a flea is if it were still hot and landed directly on the flea. Otherwise, it is pretty well useless.

If you give me some more information on where you are having a flea problem, I can tell you the best way to correct it. I own a pest control company and have dealt with this type of problem repeatedly!

all and sundry who's conscious about fleas is conscious there's no reason this may artwork. Ashes will do not something to a flea - plus something you're taking care of the carpet with must be utilized to the full carpet, or the fleas will basically hop round it! i'm afraid your boyfriend is basically repeating a wierd city delusion. Flea therapy calls for therapy of the animal, and typically therapy of our ecosystem, inclusive of curtains and comfortable fixtures - with a suitable flea spray. do not use any flea remedies from a puppy save because they don't artwork - and neither do 'domicile remedies'. No, please dont put this on your pet. I am scarred every time I hear this old home remedy and people also put burnt motor oil on dogs to try and kill mange! Crazy Hugh! It will only irritate their skin horribly. Go to Petsmart and get a good flea shampoo and the Bio Spot flea drops that go on their back. I have 4 dogs and this is what I use on them and they have never had fleas even going hunting!

Yes it does however the topical flea treatments (such as advantix) that you place on the base of their neck..so they cant lick it work wonders. The treatments are available at your local vet and petsmarts and last around 5 months.
