I work at a quiet local type pub and it really irritates me when ppl don't say goodbye- even when you've served them 3 times that night, and had to wait for them to leave to finish close. Does it bother you, or am I just expecting too much!

Oh, silverbirch, you can come to my pub anytime!

I always say goodbye, and take the glasses back to the bar. It's the way I was brought up.

The pubs I usually go to are busy, chain-type affairs (Wetherspoons, Lloys, Yates', Walkabout, Varsity etc.), so whilst I always say thank you when they serve drinks, clear our table, clean the ashtrays and so on, I don't usually get a chance to say goodbye to the relevant staff member. This is the case with a lot of people, so they have gotten into a bad habit.

However, I always say goodbye to the manager of a certain small pub I go into when I leave.

I would give you a good bye if you were nearby. In any case, if the last party there, I would make sure your tip was more than a mere token.
My mum was a server, so I have heard the stories. If I cannot afford to tip well, and am not in the mood to be friendly to everyone who is at my service, then I won't go out.
Example: Out to luncheon week before Christmas. There was a shift change, so I tipped both about the same. It was Christmas, after all!

Well, if its a quiet pub, it sucks. You need to work at a pub where there is LIFE. People will leave you better tips, flirt with you, and will always say good bye. I live in Germany, and been to many pubs. Trust me, I know.

hi there, i work in a real ale pub, its a very small pub, we can only fit 22 people inside... so everyone is in raised tones voices throw away. the majority of customers i get are extreemly friendly... they say hi wen they walk in, we have a little joke, ask them how theyve been, they sit down, i leave them to it... and they leave...

others will come in...order there beer... say nothing... be abrupt with my questions... then sit down and leave with out saying a word...

but i dont take it the wrong way... because i just think to myself that they must have had a really bad day... theyve probably had a really stressful day with people in their face all day and all they want now is some peace and quite, to wash the day down with a pint and go home and sleep... their mind is so full of whats just happened...or whats about to happen...

every customer has a different story to tell, some yea...maybe rude to you... theres a lot of female customers that on first site dont like me, they see me as the typical barmaid... and that i automatically want to have it away with there husbands... so i say hi to the lady first, then they guy... this breaks the barrier...as its the initial contact that determines how they react to you wen they leave...

if they leave and they dont say good bye wen prompted to...then next time they are in a go over and ask them if they are ok and just try to be friendly to them... if they are hostile... leave it....they are worth your hastle or time...if they are friendly put it down to the fact that they may not have heard you (yes its possible) and just put it behind you...

one favouite i like to do if they are being like that is to shout really loudly "thank you very much, good bye, have a safe journey home!" this makes them feel uncomfortable as youve made it clear to them AND the rest of the pub that youve tried to say good bye and yet they still refuse to acknowledge you... which makes them look really bad... so most times they will either say good bye back...or never come back...

at the end of the day your not losing money for them not saying good bye back... just take it with a pinch of salt...manners are a dying breed these days....

cya!

good bye! have a nice day!

Simple manners seem to be a thing of the past nowadays. It is very annoying when people simply just cannot even manage a quick hello/goodbye

The one thing you can guarantee is that the more people drink the more childish and irresponsible their behaviour become.

Their attitude becomes so selfish and juvenile that it is scary, some become happy drunk but then some become violent, aggressive both passive and overtly or just plain nasty. So dont take it to heart next time you see them just smile and serve then get away quickly to a customer who is nicer.

It is nice and I always try to make a point of looking over to say bye before I leave but if he/she is busy then I wouldn't make a special effort to go over or anything. It is nice but I don't think you can expect it, just appreciate it as a bonus when it happens, I think.

it doesn't cost anything to have good manners,my parents taught me that it is polite to say goodbye and to always say please and thank you whenever i'm in a pub or resturant i always take my glass or plates and put them on the bar or in a tidy pile so it is less work for the waiter/waitress.i always leave a good tip as well

I always say Thank You after I pay my tab. The only time I don't say good-bye or something is if I stick around after I've paid and the bartender is busy when I leave.
