you must investigate; even spend a day at the center. this place will be caring for your child/children and I thought that it was worth taking the time to find out about the day care center.
the only harmful thing that I came across was passing germs and childhood diseases. Children learn social skills that can be beneficial when they attend school.

There are some daycare's that are harmful. There are some that don't give each child proper attention or promote the development of the child.
But feeling guilty about having your child in daycare is also harmful. The kids pick up on it studies have shown this.

I ran my own daycare for over 8 years cause i did not like the one i had to drop my son off at every day so i could work at a min. wage job and be gone from him all day.
I had kids from 6 wks til they started school and there moms would tell you different, so pick a good one with an open door policy, which means any parent can come by any time.
you have to get to know the workers there and the other kids your child will be around as well.

I had my daughter in a daycare when she was 2. it was a home daycare and the experience was wonderful.
but before that I had a baby sitter and it was awful (had about 5 babysitters) all because I had to conserve my job.
I personally recommend a daycare. it's less expensive and alot of fun. I also recommend that the daycare teacher is a mature woman(a grandmother is a great example!!!)
thank goodness I had lived and passed that stage. my daughter is now 6. she's in grade school, and very social and friedly.

although i am a stay at home mom i do not think daycare is harmful just that they get sick a lot more but the benefits of being around the other kids regularly outweigh the colds your kids will bring home i decided to stay home with my daughter for the bonding experience i still take her to places where she can play with the other kids alot like play groups and sunday school that way she will have adequate social experience as well as a strong bond with me

Daycare is NOT harmful to children.... but it does have a LOT of downfalls versus home childcare. I had my two oldest daughters in daycare when they were 2yrs old and 3 months, I was told I had got the job I interviewed for on Friday afternoon, and needed to start that Monday. Daycare Is expensive and their are A LOT of children their. I know I was called at least once a week due to illness or suspected illness. day care, because it is mostly city and government subsidized, has to be extra careful to not allow sick children thru the door... even if they feel they are healthy. Also because their are so many more children in a daycare center children are often exposed to more illness, and less quality of care. My girls were in daycare for two months before I found a stay at home mom who babysat for me from her home. She is now one of my best friends. Rain or shine, day or night I know my children will receive homework help, GOOD home cooked meals, and the one on one attention they need instead of fighting for it with 25 other classmates. I also know that when my sitter does call me telling me one of my children are not well... That I can believe her, and she also allows me to work and come get them as soon as I can...instead of daycare rules... you need to get your child NOW. (not in 5 minutes, not in ten... but NOW)

I don't think it's harmful unless you leave your child in there for more than 40 hrs a week.
i personally wouldn't put my kids in daycare. I raise them myself and if I need a babysitter I get a friend or family member to do it. I usually don't need a babysitter too often.

for one thing the care providers can't watch every kid at once, so alot of things slip through the cracks. I know of inappropriate "touching" that happened b/t kids that teachers didn't stop because they didn't know where the kids were at
