I have dry eyes, but have never really had a problem with redness. Just today, in the left eye, near the colored part of my eye, it got really red. Does that mean anything? Or is redness in the eyes sometimes just completely "benign" and not really any sort of medical issue - just cosmetically not so great?

it depends if you are maybe wearing contacts...if you wake up 2morrow with crust around your eyes or its difficult 4 u 2 open your eye then you might have pink eye but if not then it just might be that you eye got a little dust or something in it and it was just reacting to it..but if the redness persists then you should better go 2 an eye doctor because it might be that a blood vessel could have popped.

Not enough sleep or "shuteye" and dusty air. Try eye drops like over the pharmacy counter "Visine" and getting more sleep or rest. If all remedies fail get pofessional help like an optometrist.

well one thing to not do to make it worse is use clear eyes, or roto's, visine, or any other eye drops that stop red eyes because they cause a rebound affect and in time will cause you to need them more because they are always making your eyes red.
