Great question! Prompted some excellent answers.
My dog and I seem to have an understanding. I do not watch him lay the dog logs, he does not watch me pick them up.
I figure he's secretly irritated he has to wait for me, as after he has left his work he seems relieved and wants to romp around with more vigor than he had before. How dare I throw a kink into his plans!

What makes you think a dog has respect for you? He may be entirely dependent and attached to you, but respect is a different and indeeed difficult concept.
You should still pick up the poo though, as right minded people will have more respect for you

Funny! My dog probably gets mad when I clean up after him, because he likes to eat any poo left in the yard! Right now he's digging in the snow looking for "treats" So NO I don't think he loses respect for me, he just thinks I'm mean.

pmpl! I know we both feel a bit awkward when we make eye contact whilst hes doing his business but I think he sees me picking his poo up and thinks its because I love him so much I want to keep it

No, my dog looks at me like he feels bad for me. I think thats why he avoids "going" away from home, he doesn't want to see me have to pick it up.
