Mayan prophecy predicts the end of the world in 2012. It should be noted that they also accurately predicted the arrival of white explorers and the downfall of their civilization. They seem to have some track record, so will it happen or not?

Not sure...I read that they predicted the arrival of the conquistadors but that they thought it was Quetzalcoatl and the conquistadors took advantage and ALMOST wiped that civilization away (there are still some in a Mexican area). They're calender was made up of 2 or 3 different calenders. They believed the earth was millions of years old and went thru cycles-the fourth is to end 12/21/12 by Gregorian calender dates. I've read their mathematical and calender system is based on astrology and is highly accurate. 'They' (today's scientist's-?)have determined that some rare astrological event will happen on that date. The Mayans weren't accurate about who or what would happen on the conquistador event but they had the date right. So, I would do what I could to prepare for the worse on 12/21/12 but hopefully, they got the occurrences completely wrong again. (Maybe it's really the date when everyone realizes there are no monotheistic deities!)

ahh... ok, common misconception. You humans think you're so damn important that if your race were to be wiped off the face of the planet you go ahead and call it "the end of the world". Well in reality the world will still be around for much longer than humans will, even if you nuke the whole planet and kill every single living thing on the planet the earth will still be there. It won't sustain any life, but it'll be there. The reason the end of the world became such a common phrase was because the original phrasing was "the end of the world as we know it" and throught the years it was altered and shortened to what it is now.

NOOO! The only reason why that is around is because the Mayans have a Calender that ends on that date. If you look at it, it ends on the winter solstice. Why would the world end on the first day of winter? And, that is just an end to an age special to the Mayans. Everyone has said since the beggining of time that the world is near. They stopped making prophecies because none of them came true.

People have been predicting the end of the world for thousands of years. Has anyone ever been correct? No the world could end tomorrow, but would it even matter? of course not everyone would be gone. So why worry about it
99% of all species that ever lived are extinct, what chance do us measly little humans have anyway We had a good run

No the world will not end in 2012, but the world will will change dramatically in 2012 when other life forms visit earth publicly for the first time ever for all to see. Humans will no longer think they are the only beings ever created.

December of 2012 is the prediction. It's not necessarily that the world will end but that SOMETHING extraordinary will occur. I've known about this for years. I'm waiting for that month and year and see what may happen.

P.S. I'm not serious about it. It's a game to me.

I am also saying "not". There have been many "other" prophecies that have predicted the end of the world and we are still here! Of course, global warming now seems to be out to "get us" so who knows! We just won't know till then and, let's face it, if it happens we won't know ANYway!

Mayans do *NOT* believe the world will end in 2012. There will be many great changes in the world, but it will definitely not be a time of fear.

I will surely win the bet by saying NO: If I win, both of us will exist, and you must pay; if you win, both of us will go to complete silence!
The teachings of the One True God clearly recorded in the Holy Books say nothing about the destruction of the world, but definitely promise the establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth. So, I am trying to work hard without fearing of any doomsday.

I thought that the 2012 date will represent the end of one era and the beginning of another, according to Mayans? No?
