If it has speed dial capabilities, program one with the user guide to dial the voicemail access numeber provided by your carrier.

Ehw!!! A land line, how archaic. You need to read the instructions as many differ for one another.
You need to record a greeting, set you time and # of rings. That's about all there is to it.

if you got a regular phone you can't program it to check messages. it just rings and you answer it.

It should have come with instructions I would start there. Not all phones are the same. good Luck
