What is the most silent firearm, when used with a suppressor? Is it still the HK MP5 or the new MP7. Either Semi or a Sub-machine gun.

MP5SD models are extremely quiet, although the UMP in .45 ACP may soon surpass it if HK builds an integrally suppressed version due to the ACP's low velocity yet relatively high power. (If you ever do obtain a MP5SD remember it is designed for super-sonic ammo, use of sub-sonic ammo is NOT required and often not recommended, due to increased fouling of the baffles and the fact that the silencer will slow the already sub-sonic round to levels of failing performance)

Boker is right, the High Standard HDM in .22 LR is popularly considered the world's quietest firearm and I believe the design is currently manufactured by one or more companies

According to http://www.silencertests.com , the 22lr rimfire round shot out of the P-22 pistol will sound as loud as 118 decibels, when it is used with the SWR suppressor which reduces noise by about 43 decibels. A rifle using the same ammunition and suppressor would certainly be twice as quiet, or 3 decibels less.

An suppressed Uzi 9mm will be about 125 decibels. A differance of 7 decibels equals about 5 times louder than the above suppressed P22.

No semi-auto action has a chance compared to a single shot or bolt action firearm when it comes to noise level. A semi-auto bolt closing on a dummy cartridge can be as loud as 100 decibels.

My own 22 rimfire rifles are less noisey at the muzzle than the bullet hitting a dirt berm 25 yards away. My 9mm Browning pistol is much more powerful and needs a much larger suppressor to handle the gunpowder gases. The action noise is nearly as loud as the muzzle report. An intergally suppressed MP-5 is probably less noisey than the Uzi, but I'm sure it is noisier than any good 22lr caliber suppressed weapon.

Neither one, the most silent suppressed weapon has never been either the HK MP5 or the MP7. It's aways been a suppressed 22 of any make. Using subsonic ammo a suppressed 22 rifle emits less sound than an air rifle.

No weapon that is semi-automatic/automatic will be that quiet. There is always the mechanical noise of the action reciprocating.
I think the most quiet weapon would be a suppressed bolt action or single shot .22 rifle when used with sub-sonic ammo and a first class suppressor.
