I don't think there is enough to go on the character of Satan. Do we know specifically why he rebelled? Sure, the Bible has some theories, but then again the Bible only tells us as much as an American history book tells of American History. By this I mean you only know what the authors decide to tell you. The knowledge needed cannot be said to be entirely available. Let's say God, being the only ruler, subjugated his followers and Satan rebelled for the masses and failed. I'm not saying that was what happened, but we don't know for sure that it didn't. Also, it has been said that Satan is a necessity of Christianity, the one needed to fuel the faith. Without evil, there cannot be good.

That's the one remaining piece of baggage I haven't totally managed to lose at the airport of atheism.
I don't actually believe in that entity, but I am STILL incapable of watching The Exorcist without being terrified of what's under the bed or going to the bathroom....and FORGET ABOUT going to the basement for several days afterwards.

i think satan is a very powerful being look at the world and how it is, but he is a defeated foe by the blood of jesus. he comes to steal, kill, and destroy. but he is not mightier than god if we let the love of god in all our heart this would be a better world but as we can see its not. all are called but sadly only a few are chosen. meaning only a few will choose god and his way. we through whom we choose to live for makes this world and our lives they way they are. god said in his word This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the LORD is your life.

Satan or "the devil" is a cartoonish creation of late first and early second century christians to chase people into church pews..
It creates fear to establish social control over ignorant people..
