I spend most of my xmas undoing these ties from toys. Like you said maybe one or two ties but OMG it's like a test. How long will it take you to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop??!!! lol One will never know!!!!

I would imagine that toys (and most other things, for that matter--DVDs and CDs, for example) are packaged the way they are to prevent shoplifting. If the package opened easily and there was only one or two plastic ties, it would be relatively easy to open the package, undo the ties and walk off with the toy without being noticed. The same goes for DVDs and CDs, with all the "Security Device Enclosed" tape all over the place and shrink wrap. All of these annoying security devices increase the time it takes to remove the desired item from the packaging, and thus make it harder to steal things from a store.

I would say to protect them while shipping and while on the sheleves..
Kids go wild on those shelves and if not you would have toys everywhere.. Broken and I would be very angry if I got home with a broken toy..
And maybe to prevent theft.
It may be alot, but I would rather not have prices go higher cuz of theft and so we deal with it..
And to challenge us adults!!!!

To prevent in-store theft, and to drive parents insane on christmas. We have three kids, going on 4. Christmas 2007 is going to be a nightmare, i'm asking for work gloves to protect my fingers from all the ties and plastic.

This gives people jobs, think about it:
1) the package designer
2) the package production people
3) the people who twist, tie, screw all that stuff together

well, think about it for just a minute. the toy is going to have to stay in one spot in the package one way or another. For example, a Barbie doll that is stuck in the box is going to move around, and probaby be damaged, but if it is tied down, then it stays put, staying new and undamaged.

Theft, I guess. But it does suck. Takes forever to get the toys out and several tools, not easy with kids bouncing in your lap wanting the toy. Makes me cranky.....

Makes it harder for shop-lifters to take it out of the package and stick in their pocket. Also keeps down a lot of breakage and lost parts, incase package get torn open. See how hard it was, that is exactly why they do it.

I totally agree with you, I mean I always joke about it to people on how they "parent proof" the toys. The only thing I can come up with is they are trying to teach the kids patience...lol

Theft control. Makes it harder to take it out of the box and hide it under your clothes. But, it is annoying isn't it.
