We don't get to choose what brains we get and everyone keeps saying that we are all different. So if we come out of the womb different, then where is the free will to determine what we are? For some people, pleasureable chemicals are released in the brain when they do certain activties so they do them more. For other people, they get reward out of other activites. The brain chemistry was never chosen so where is the Free Will in all this?

If it isn't the brain, then what is making the decision to do an activity? What is the exact source?

The kind of brain you are given and how it works will determine all the choices you end up making in life, no? What else will make the choices?

I tend to think we all have a pre-destined "blueprint" of sorts (in other words, our "life path"), but we also have free will. For instance, we can be born to be an artist, but have free will to chose what type of artistry we fancy the most. So our artist can be anything from a sculptor, a musician, or web graphic designer. We come with basics (like a body & a brain) and its up to us to choose what to do with all of that.
Also, we DO have the power to to determine what we are. The whole fun of it is discovering what we'd like to be at any given moment. Watch the DVD titled, "The Secret". It may help to clear up alot of questions you may have.

This is basically one of the questions that has scared people for centuries. Religion does also throw out the sens of free will that you are mentioning, seeing as how all the different Gods know all, and since they know your fate, then it MUST happen, seeing as how they are never wrong. However my answer has to be that the Free Will each person has isn't really real, as genetics and envioronment determine behavoiur.
P.S. The jury is still out on the religion thing as God may know all the different paths a person may take, not the one he WILL take, this would reduce free will not destroy it, but it still doesn't change my answer.

Free will is the ability to make choices. For example, you've lost your job, its a week before christmas and you have kids to buy for. You have choices, do without and hope your kids understand, ask for a loan from family, rob a bank, etc.. Free will is about your personal choices, not your natural abilities. Natural abilities are not the same thing as free will, not even in the same ballpark.

the brain can be developed and improved, you may start of with a decent memory.......there are methods to improve memory. you can start with a basic understanding of math, you can progress and have a superior understanding of math if you wanted to. some have the natural ability and are just smarter but you have the free will in most scenarios to improve the capacity of your brain,if you chose to do so you would be exercising free will.

It isn't their brains that enjoy math and art, it's the guys who enjoy it. As people. I enjoy art, but that doesn't mean that I do it for a living because I am not motivated solely by my own interests. Free will doesn't mean that you blindly follow your own desires, it means that you don't have a pre-determined destiny.

The free will to determine our lives is in every decision we make.
Brain activity is to make those decisions.

Well, I think these tendencies are mostly a result of the environment we grow up in and the feeling we get when we do them. It may also (in a non-scientific note) be the result of God;s destiny decreed upon us??

We don't determine who/what we are at birth. We determine who/what we are during the course of our lives.
