The best way to reduce the discomfort of sore throat is to take pain meds like Tylenol or Advil (acetominofen or Ibuprofen).

Warm beverages and soups are also soothing to the throat.

Gargling with warm salt water is effective at soothing and also for helping to reduce the viral infection. Good oral hygiene when you are sick is also good -- brushing your teeth and using antiseptic mouthwash (like Listerine brand) are helpful to reduce the level of viruses in your mouth.

There are also tons of products such as throat lozenges and throat sprays that are soothing. For lozenges, I have found that the most effective active ingredient is:
hexylresorcinol
But there are not very many products that have it. Instead you will probably be able to find products containing other active ingredients.

The brand Cepacol is generally the most effective lozenges available (in the USA). Here is their website:

Have yourself tested for it too. If you do not have strep throat there is really not much you can do to speed it up to normal. your body will work it out. taking over the counter medicine will help but will not take it away, just makes you feel weak and sleepy. I often use warm luke water with a bit of salt and gargle for a few minutes.

Dont take antibiotics. Most sore throats are caused by a virus and antibioticsdo not work with them .Unless your coworker has had a culture done how does he/she know its strep ? Gargle with diluted grapefruit seed extract or teatree oil. Teatree tastes vile but it works !

It is very likely you have caught it as strep is very infectious. I had it twice and it can make you very sick....call your doctor before you get a fever. and pass it on to everyone else you come in contact with.

Go to the doctor's and he'll give you antibiotics, but for the time being you can try losenges (halls, strepsils, etc) and gargle with salt mixed in warm water.

Take medicine that a pharmasist told you to use, eat heathly, swallow everything you can. I know it's really hard, but it will go away sometime and when you know that you did what you could for yourself, you'll just have to wait.

Drink hot black tea with honey. Also, get a lot of Vitamin C because it fights infectious disease. And wash your hands often!

You may want to be tested for it.

Also, if you start getting other symptoms, there may be other things going on so I would consult a doctor.
