Is this horse not a miracle? I've kept up with the coverage on him since his horrible accident and I just saw he walked for the public for the first time last week!

Barbaro's Vet says it isn't a miracle that saved him, but good science; he has a point. Either way, he is an amazing horse. His race in Louisville is already legendary, and I hope he has a long life.

I agree that the miracle is one of modern veterinary science. Barbaro is not the first horse to overcome a terrible accident, his recovery is built upon the knowledge gained from thousands of unnamed (and a few 'names' like Nureyev, Personal Ensign, Dacinginmydreams, ect.) athletes who helped sculpt the procedures. Barbaro's miracle is in his charisma and the spotlight that shines on him giving hope to so many people around the world.

This big boy has been walking outside and been on TV doing it several times since August! Just recently he's had his cast removed, but still has a bandage and special shoe for his laminitic left hind. He's shown nothing but determination and fortitude since he got hurt; he's a lesson to us all.

What's truly tragic though is that every year over 20,000 of these incredible animals are sent to slaughter in the United States so that people in Europe and Asia can eat them! There are three such slaughterhouses in the US. Recently, a law was passed banning the transportion of live horses and horse meat for the purposes of human consumption; BUT it is only in effect for eighrt months! We need to make it permanent.

I think we're all going to be happy on January 1st, when our boy Barbaro turns 4! Let's do the right thing for ALL horses.

I wouldn't go that far, he has been tremendously lucky, and luck is sort of a minor miracle. Most horses wouldve been put down a long time ago. I think he's gonna make it, hes survived this long. Then again, they could afford to pay for a absolutely dedicated effort by the veterinarians, for one thing he has tremendous value as a stallion, not only is he a champion, but his sire, Dynaformer, is a top top sire on grass and dirt, so that combination makes him worth 10s of millions, thus they were willing to pay for top top care for him, the vet bill is probably gonna be close to a million.

It really is amazing. It almost made me cry to see the horse try his hardest and then get hurt. People blamed his jockey too. They booed him at the next race he rode in. Even when horses don't get hurt it always makes me a little sad to see them race. they ar just trying so hard for their riders.
