Hypothetically, if God did exist, he would be a supreme being and no single human would be able to surpass him in any way. Right? However, in this civil society we do not torture people even for the worst of crimes-simply because it cruel and inhumane to do so. We have established a law under section 12 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms that states “Everyone has the right not to be subjected to any cruel and unusual treatment or punishment.” If humans have the potential to surpass God in the trait of mercy then the fundamental belief that he is superior is broken. Using this logic; does he not exist?

Well...does our country's legislation allow us to crucify our condemned, or kill great numbers of people with floods, or unleash plagues upon them? If not, I'd say that we, with our "freedom of conscience and religion", are ahead of the game. I don't consider God superior. I don't even consider God existent.

Who said that God tortures people? It's not in the Bible that I know of. Sure, the Bible has had many wars among the ancient people in order to secure lands, etc. Many people have died for God, and have been personally punished by God. Still there have been no tortures brought on personally by God. Even the book of Job shows Satan was the one that caused the tortures that Job endured, not God.
God is a merciful God, yet he's capable of exacting vengence when he's reached his limit. Read the Bible for more information.

Hypothetically, a supreme being could set the standard of morality, thus allowing for any and all actions to be perfect in the only eyes that matter, its own. Thus, humanity in general and any specific human could not achieve a status higher than that allowed by the supreme being. That is my opinion. According to Judeo-Christian mythology, one human was blessed by God and raised to a status higher than the angels, that man was Enoch who became Metatron, the scribe of Heaven.

No, humans cannot surpass God, the last time any being tried to beat god (i.e. Lucifer). He ended up in hell. God is merciful, but one must accept that he is supreme, as well.

LOL... First of all, when did God ever tell you to torture anyone?

Torture is not prescribed in ANY part of the Bible for Any punishment whatsoever...

Secondly... Satan is as evil as all hell, does that mean that you are senior to him because you're a goody-two-shoes?

NEGATIVE.

Satan is superior to you in every way... in fact, he's controlling you now.

Peace

God loves us so much he sent his son as a sacrifice for our sins so that we might have a way out of this human bondage called sin. This is mercy.
