Nobody should be except from paying property taxes. They reap the benefits when the property value goes up, so they should pay the taxes like everybody else. If Churches don't pay taxes, then neither should bars. I get more value from the bar than the church.

Totally agree with you on that !!!

But I believe the answer is that churches aren't supposed to make money. Their vocation isn't to make money but lead people in their religious belief.

But all in all, they make more money than many companies! Outrageous !!!

The word is exempt and means they don't pay taxes because they are non profit organizations. All non profit organizations are supposed to be for the general good of the public and improve life for all. I would suggest you not burn any bridges; there may come a time when you will get more out of a church than a bar. Life will take you many places.

Your question is good, but the additional details aren't. If you need to state an opinion, then go do it on your 360 page or another blog.

Plenty of other not-for-profit organizations are exempt from property and even sales taxes. It is seen as their purpose benefits the community more than the potential taxes that might be collected.

Churches and non-profit organizations are tax exempt.

Large companies and the super rich use other methods to keep from paying taxes.

So before you get on your soap box razzing churches do your homework.
