braids are the best ways to keep your hair managable. since you have part thick hair it would be easy to get braids and since it's part thin hair it would look like baby hair in braids[which is a good thing] make sure you get designs in your hair it looks so much better.[my niece and my lil brother are mixed and i always have to do there hair]

I don't think it's a mixed race thing, it's just a hair thing. Trust me, I had "troublesome" hair all my life and went from home perms, straitening to braiding and all of them had problems. I wanted what everyone had (or what I thought everone else had) - stress free hair. There is no such thing really. The real trick it to not see it as stress, but maintenance. A good salon could give you advice on making styles last (like using mousses when styling with straighteners) and creating simple styles yourself (like using serums and finger curling your hair when you're in a hurry. The important thing is that you enjoy your hair and try as many styles as possible while you're young before doing anything drastic like shaving it all off (which is always an option). I wear dreadlocks now which is not as stress free as I thought at all, but it has taught me that all the stereotypes I had about my hair were wrong and I've had to get to know my hair all over again. You have so many options. Choose them all one by one!

I highly recommend the book "Curly Girl" by Lorraine Massey. She gives great advice on how to care for hair ranging from wavy to kinky and everything in between. She devotes a portion of her book to African-American and mixed race kinks & curls. My hair has been so much easier to handle ever since.

One of the best things I have done is something called conditioner washing. Find a conditioner with no silicones, such as Suave or VO5 (usually pretty cheap). I alternate between Suave Tropical Coconut, Suave Aloe Vera and VO5 Kiwi Lime. Before washing, dissolve 1 tbsp of baking soda in 2 cups warm water. Stir and pour over your hair (don't get it in your eyes!). After a couple of minutes, rinse out, which dissolves product buildup. Then apply the conditioner and cleanse your scalp. Detangle with a very wide-tooth comb, rinse out and squeeze dry with a towel - don't rub! I always apply an leave-in conditioner. Add the product of your choice (no silicones, mineral oil or petroleum products) and try not to disturb/frizz up your curls. Dry with a diffuser. Don't forget to deep condition your hair at least twice a month. I use the Carrot deep conditioner by Luster.

I'm sure your hair is beautiful. You just have to have a little patience and the right styling tools at your disposal. Hope this helps......

You could have a straightening perm, but perms have a bad effect on the hair, making it porous and damaging the shaft of the hair.

There are products on the market (called Frizz-ease, or something like) which promise to tame frizz, but once again, wind and rain will have the same effect.

Basically, you just have to learn to live with and love what you've got, which is probably not what you wanted to hear.

I think coconut oil is VERY good for taming hair. I have frizzy hair and when I go out in the wind and rain. I don't just look like something the cat draged in It is more that I look like something the cat played with for an hour, Chewed on for an hour and then spat out and left.

Your hair is obviously giving you too much trouble to adequately maintain properly. You want no fuss nor bother, maybe delay-ing you too long on mornings to fix, maybe you work or you are a student. Most sensible thing to do is to see a professional hair stylist. If I were in your position, I would plait it in an intriguing, beautiful African style, and adorn it with head beads. I think that this hair style looks beautiful, and I REALLY MEAN THAT.

omg i have hair sorta like that too! u should try the herbal essances totally twisted curling mousse. (it's purple.) it works to nicely curl your hair and keep it that way, with much less frizz. i don't know about making it straight since mine is curly and i like it like that, but try the mousse. it worked for me. o yeah, and i also recommend the smooth and sleek garnier fructis shampoo and conditioner. it really smooths it out w/o leaving it limp. good luck!
