First I'd decide on a breed that you would like: Do some research. Our family did the research... we visited different websites and narrowed down the choices. We then bought some books and magazines to see if we truly wanted that breed of dog.

Try going to your local pet shop(s) (including pet food shops, not just shops that sell pets) and asking for names and contact information of breeders. The breeders won't give you (in loss of better words) bad dogs (meaning you probably won't get a dog who will have bad hips due to the parents).

I don't believe in pet stores (that sell pets), so if I were you I would stay away from them.

Good luck!

It would be a very good idea to go to your local Humane Society, they have a lot of abandoned beautiful dogs and the keep them clean but most important healthy, they all have their shot and treatments, and you would also be doing a really good thing!! ALL those animals need a good loving home, and if you can give it to them, that's GREAT!! GOD WILL reward you and BLESS you for it! Trust me!! Good Luck & GOD Bless.

ALWAYS at a shelter or pound...just cause they're there doesn't mean they're bad dogs....they're great. It's worth it anyway because u know you'll be saving a life...that's important.
